It has taken about 5 times of using it to get the proper procedure down as to how to use it successfully. It is quite different from the traditional type of can opener. This one lifts the lid off entirely with the rim of the can preventing sharp edges and cuts. This also prevents the can lids from falling in. I really like it and now that I am quite expert I am hoping to convert my reluctant husband to learning how to use it!

This is a good design. I'm not totally sold on the new design that uses handle direction as opposed to the more traditional two part hand to attach and detach from the can. The system does work however and will quickly become second nature to you. The teeth on the side will easily pull the can top off and the lip on the other side can help with pull tabs but often will just break them off.
