Overall it is very easy to use

Truly a very handy tool when developing checks. I just got a check back after using this tool and it (as in the MICR line) passed first time. Overall it is very easy to use, but wonder how well it will hold up if it is used heavily. Luckily, the company I work for doesn't develop a lot of check forms with the MICR line otherwise I feel it could wear out quickly. The only complaint I have is that I wish I knew about this sooner! It would have made past check form developments a lot less time consuming. Overall, a very user-friendly product.
All the right measurements.

The plastic piece has all the parts I need for verifying the layout of US and Canadian check MICR. The plastic overlay is affixed to a heavy posterboard stock in such a way that the checks can only slide down to the point they are mounted - that lines up the bottom edge. I would have preferred not to have the back on it at all and had it more like a T-Square where the checks could sit open-backed on a ledge. It'd be quicker and you wouldn't have to fight, albeit slightly, to get the checks all the down to the bottom of the pinch point between the backer and the plastic.

Still, it does it's job. It'd be almost as useful without the backer at all - just aligning the bottom and right sides by hand.
Very Good MICR Ruler

This is the best MICR ruler available. Much better and sturdy than other products I've seen listed here at Amazon. If you are testing checks for your business or institution, you need to have one of these. It clearly tells you where your MICR line needs to be. This will eliminate wasteful testing with your bank. The only reason I did not give this 5 stars is because I believe the ruler itself should come with some kind of holder or folding cover. I had bought a MICR ruler 10 years ago at another institution and it came with a plastic sleeve, kind of like a checkbook holder, that protected it and kept the papers telling you how to use it nice and neat. I wish this one came with something similar.
Great Check (and IRD) measurement tool

The design with the flexible transparent sheet glued (at the bottom) to a sturdy card works remarkably well: with rulers it is hard to keep the check in one place, here the check is held tight.
The included instructions are great, who knew you could have 14 different features on one ruler ?
I was a bit surprised that the all measurements were in "decimal" notation (e.g. 3.75") mainly because some third party documentation I have for MICR uses fractional notation (3 3/4) but it makes sense since the ANSI documentation uses decimal notation.
This helped us a lot with our IRD Check printing product.
A "must have" for anyone configuring check printing software

My team updated our checking printing software and needed to design professional, ANSI x9.100-160-1-2009 compliant MICR checks. The MICR Gauge from Elfring Fonts allowed us to do this quickly and efficiently. We confirmed that printed output matched the configuration and would be accepted by our bank. It's a great tool for anyone doing this for the first time or the 50th.
