Does what it was advertised to do. Were I to look at purchasing it again, I would buy one that was made for a 1 1/4 by 8 spindle and purchase an adapter. I did purchase an adapter to go up to the larger spindle, but it does extend the effective length of the chuck more than I like.

This is an awesome set of collets. Very well made, and easy to use. Why didn't I buy these earlier!!? I recommend them. If you think you can use them, buy them - you won't be sorry. I use them to make long hardwood dowels into thin parts about 1.25 inches long. I used to have to cut about a 3 inch piece of dowel and mount it in a Jacobs chuck to use only 1.25 inches of it. Quite a waste of time and material. I am now able to place a 16 inch dowel into the collet, let it protrude out the back of the spindle, turn my part and then extend the dowel another 1.25 inches and turn another. I have very little waste for the last piece. 16 inches is about the maximum length I can use or else the back end starts to act as a helicopter blade and whip around. I suppose if I could contain the length in a well supported conduit I could do longer dowels, but in my case I don't think the gains would be worth it.

Great product! Simple to use and extremely versitile. Very well built. About the only downside is the holes drilled in the collar for the tightening pegs to fit into were a little too small for the pegs to fit into causing them to slip when tightening the collar. I simply sanded down the peg a bit and it worked like a champ. They fit perfectly now. Definitely would recommend this product.
