Wow. I read the reviews, and I can say without equivocation, this is the best performing child lock I've ever found. We've tried numerous knob clip-ons, and my 2 1/2 year old son can tear any of them off the door.

Yes, its hard to leave your kid in there crying. After 2 weeks in our bed from a VERY nasty, dangerous (breathing trouble) cold, we had to break him in again. He wouldn't stay in his bed. But it literally took 2 nights once he actually COULDN'T get out. There was a lot of crying (my wife included) but he got through it, and sleeps soundly in his bed now.

We also got a light-up wake-up alarm shortly after, and that has really helped him get back to sleep, if he did wake up. He almost never gets out of bed now at night - a few light sobs, and rolls back over and goes to sleep. I would recommend them in tandem.

Solid product, is WAY sturdier than it looks, and we can pop it off easily in the morning so it doesn't lock during the day if he closes it accidentally. Its one-hand installed at night, so even if he's alseep on my shoulder when he goes to bed, i can put it

My two-year old daughter recently discovered how to open the tension gate that we were using to keep her in her room at bed time. I decided to try this lock before purchasing a more expensive gate that would need to be screwed into the wall, and I'm glad I did.

While it is very simple and our daughter could no-doubt figure out how to open it quickly, the advantage is that it can be placed anywhere on the door. I simply place it near the top of the door, out of her reach. This would also be an advantage for a family that has multiple children and needs older children to be able to access an area while restricting younger ones; it could simply be placed at a level where the older kids could reach it but the toddlers/babies could not.

Another thing I like about it is that the door remains cracked open, which allows us to hear her and peak into the room to check on her without having to unlatch it.

We live in a 70's era tract-house with standard interior doors and simple trim around the doorways and this works fine on every door I have tested it on in our house. If the doorway you plan to use it on has no trim, or extra wide trim; or if the door is much wider or narrower than a standard interior door, it may not work for you. Thinking back to the 1930s bungalow we used to live in, I don't think it would have worked on any of our doors.

We use this for doors that we want to keep open but keep the cats out of. It works great on cats and our now 2 year old nephew, I'm sure one day he'll be strong enough to break the thing but for right now it meets our needs. Our linen closet is in our bathroom and it seems that warm wet air get trapped in there after showers. I bought the door monkey to keep that door cracked open all the time because if we just left it open the cats would never leave the piles of blankets and towels... I'm not a fan of that. That door opens outwards so the "handle" part sits on the door, easy to use the latch button, and the hook part hooks to the door frame.

It keeps the cats out of the linen closet and it also keeps the cats out of the bedroom if my nephew is sleeping in there. And if he wakes up without anyone knowing he has to call out for the door to be opened so he can't just wander around upstairs. So basically, this works great against cats for doors that you want to keep cracked open for air circulation.

I ordered this because I wanted a way to keep my 2 year old son out of his baby sister's room without completely closing the door. The baby gate I had in the doorway is no longer working because he climbs over it, and I didn't want to spend a bunch of money on a fancier, taller gate. Plus, I liked the idea of being able to close the door most of the way, but still be able to peek in. I was extremely disapointed to find that this product is not compatible with my door. I live in a new (2015) house so I would think my doors/framing are as "standard" as they come but the door monkey is not long enough to catch on the door frame. The picture I took shows as far closed as I was able to get it. A simple design modification that allows you to adjust the shaft length would sure be great. Unfortunately, I am going to have to return the door monkey and look for something else.

Hands down-AH-MA-ZING!!!!! Best purchase I'v ever made in my life until I moved. My toddler can get out of almost every door lock, but this one can be put up high and out of reach with no problem. He used to bang on his door and shake it and still couldn't get out.

Only ONE caveat is that you need a specific door frame for this to work. My new house has door frames that aren't thick enough and are shaped incorrectly for this door lock (see photo with towel in it). It's hard to understand why this frame won't work unless you understand how the gadget works. The little "hook" latches onto the center portion of the frame. The hook doesn't "catch" on my frame because the center portion isn't just a thick, uniform, protrusion. I'm including a second picture of a door frame that would work (picture with no towel).
