Won't Last the Night - Short Runtime
Janice Gochnauer✓ Verified PurchaseJuly 28, 2017
These lights give off a great amount of light to illuminate a fence, making a nice triangle of light that reaches the ground below. Very easy to install. Just 2 screws. Trace it onto paper with a pencil to create a template, and it is even easier.

Sadly, 1 of 4 turns off within 2 hours. The remaining 3 turn off over somewhere between 3 & 4 hours. The one that last the shortest amount of time actually gets the most direct sun....6+ hours of direct and 4 hours of indirect. I tried new batteries, but that didn't make a difference.

This is disappointing because the cheap color-changing yard ornaments that are in the same garden and get even less sunlight are just as bright before sunrise as they were when they went on the night before.
It's good for what it is, while it lasts...

In 2014 we had to replace our whole deck. The old one was small and in really bad shape. We designed the new one to last... and to make it really attractive and safe, we installed solar lights on each step, on the landing and around the railing. This particular model went on the railing. They were purchased in September 2014 and installed in December that year.

The best rechargeable AA batteries (like would be used in this) only have about 1000 charge cycles before they give out. And that's Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH)... Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cad) are the worst! If you get Ni-Cad batteries in a product, do yourself a favor and replace them right up front.

Anyway, it's mid-2017 and these lights are starting to fail. No problem, change out the battery, right? Wrong. While the battery compartment has a little rubber seal in the door to keep moisture and humidity out, the rest of the light isn't as fortunate... and guess what? The manufacturer used ferrous hardware for the switch inside! That's a $20 word for "magnetic", which means "prone to oxidation", which means "RUST". So I replaced the battery with a brand new one, fully charged up - but the damage was done. That switch was not going to work again. Everything else inside looks okay, except for the switch. Photo attached.

In summary, these are great looking lights and they will work great... until they don't anymore.
Works just as promised.

Initially I reported that this didnt charge the batteries. It appears that I was mistaken. For some reason for the first couple of nights I would go out and wiggle the lens assembly and the light would come on and stay on for hours. After that it has worked every night for at least a few hours (and this is february sun in NC mind you) a night. So it works as intended and lights up my house numbers with just enough light to be able to read the numbers but not to be too bright to be obtrusive from the road.
Great product, but I had to edit my review.

These lights are exactly what I was looking for!! Only thing that could make them better, is if the mounting points were closer together to make them directly mountable to a wood fence post. I had to cut some brackets for them to mount as shown in the picture.

Edit: ordered 2 more from the same place as the first two, and the color of the light output on the new ones is a cool white.
I have two of these lights mounted in my concrete ...

I have two of these lights mounted in my concrete steps, and on another nearby staircase I have a different brand of similar light. The Moonray's is inferior. Light not as bright and I lost a thumb screw on one. Of the two, only one is still working. One died after just two months.
