Works very well - sufficient - efficient

Very easy to use. No fuss controls. Responsive. No unnecessary buttons
Frustrating for beginners
Sam W.•December 12, 2016
It is a little difficult to use, I will admit I am a bit tone deaf, so that might contribute to the difficulties.
I play the flute which is easier to tune because I know the fingering for that like the back of my hand (played for 15 years), the problem comes when I try to tune my violin. I have just started playing that, and it is a string instrument, so there is no keys to press it is just strings against wood and I was hoping this could be used to get used to where the placement of my fingers would produce the right note/tone. However because either this tuner is very sensitive or it is just hard to use for beginners on string instruments I get a little frustrated,
I personally wouldn't buy this product for another person, though if you are used to your instrument and just need a small tuner to throw in your bag this would be an alright choice.

The tuner itself is fine, but it came with a display where half of it didn't light up, making it difficult to read what note you were playing, or how in tune you were. The pitch playing and sensing parts worked fine until my son left it in his backpack and dropped his bag on the ground (normal school behavior for a kid), then the whole thing stopped working. This tuner would be best kept on your music stand at home or in your instrument's case.
Simple, great for young students and beginners -- not durable.
Kirbee Nykamp•May 15, 2016
I had initially bought a lot of these to offer my violin students, because it has an extremely simple display, and does not include more advanced features that confuse beginners and kids. I was pleased with the format, and its accuracy. My students enjoy using them, and are able to tune accurately and easily.
However, I've had a couple of them go buggy. I'm afraid they really are NOT durable. One student's display started to short (certain lines won't show up), and my own personal tuner has started to fade. The display, even with fresh batteries, is extremely difficult to read. It's basically no longer usable except at night or in very low lighting.
So, this is a great tuner at a great price -- but expect poor durability, and treat it gently.

The best for a bench / studio tuner (on stage I would go with the clamp-on) but drains it's battery if not turned off...
Thomas A. Oehser•February 2, 2016
Probably I like this best for a bench / studio / settled tuner (on stage I would go with the clamp-on one) - the only big flaw is that it doesn't shut itself off after inactivity to save power - so it is often effectively battery-dead when I pick it up. The good / amazing thing is it still works with a dead battery - but really dim and hard to read. I like it better than other tuners though... recommended.
