this stuff is effective for many temporary fixes (key word: temporary).
I've stopped leaks in cracked oil pans with it before. and they held up that way for a long while.
I keep a tube in with my emergency road-side tools. Never know, it might come in handy for a worst-case-scenario situation someday.

Does not work

I purchased this product with the intention of stopping a very small leak in a copper pipe joint. This leak is tiny, it doesn't drip so much as it oozes water. As directed, I sanded and cleaned the copper surfaces, mixed the putty and applied as directed. It stuck to my rubber gloves better than it did to the pipe. It failed to seal this tiny leak in a copper pipe, maybe it works better on iron, steel or plastic pipe? I gave this product one star simply because Amazon requires this as a minimum for posting a review. If I could, I'd give it no stars. I ended up calling a plumber.
