After delivery I noted that the package was loosely sealed at one end. After opening, I saw that the end of the unit where the box was loosely sealed had some minor damage where the plastic had broken. I found one of the broken plastic pieces, but the others were gone so I couldn't just glue it back together. Luckily, I saw that I wasn't going to use the mounting where it was broken and you could barely notice the break, so I chose not to worry about the broken piece.
Next, I noticed that they give you these chrome metal triangular rings to mount it from. Alternately, and thankfully, you can use the mounting holes for the triangles with conventional wall/ceiling anchor fasteners. I was compelled not to use the triangles because the unit is pretty flimsy end-to-end and sits naturally twisted, and presumably would still twist after mounting if mounted using just the triangles. This is the actual sheet metal shroud that surrounds the screen twisting end-to-end, which would be really annoying if still observed after mounting. Using the ceiling fasteners gave it a great rigid mounting and straightened-out the natural twist in the unit.
The reason I think it was previously used is that it had hand prints on the back (non-reflective) side. Whoever had it last had small, dirty hands. The dirt wiped-off pretty easily. Lastly, when pulled down, I noticed that the screen seems to want to escape the horizontal pull bar you pull it down with. I believe this is going to need to be reinforced or it will eventually fail. This will take a few pennies worth of good tape along the back side of the screen, after some minor disassembly of the horizontal bar, then reassembly after taping.
I don't use it as a projection screen, so I can't speak to any wrinkling or picture quality. I use it as a 'green screen' with Zoom so I can have a 'virtual background' during Zoom meetings. It isn't green (it's white), but I shine a green LED on it and it works great for that, unless I wear a green shirt, in which case I switch the LED to blue and very quickly re-calibrate the Zoom virtual background to use blue.
Overall, I like the end result and I am very happy. Most people don't have my patience for the rigid installation, nor would they like the way the horizontal pull bar looks like it will fail, which are probably some of the reasons why the last person returned it. The scrolling up-and-down action seems smooth and reliable with the rigid mounting, but I bet it isn't when using the triangular rings. I would buy it again, hoping not to get a poorly packed 'return' next time.

Elite Screens M106UWH Manual Projection Screen (106 inch 16:9 AR)
I purchased this screen three weeks ago and so far I must say I like it quite well. I purchased it to replace my original 100" DIY screen which I had constructed from some instructions I found on a popular projector review site; it consisted of a wood frame covered in black felt with white seamless background paper (used in photography) stapled to the back. It did me well for six years or so, but unfortunately over time the paper sagged and developed large wrinkles which caused some distortion and "waving" of the image, especially during static scenes and scrolling film credits. I have some of the background paper left over so I could have replaced it, but instead I thought I should look at a better solution.
I purchased Elite Screens model M106UWH which is a 106 inch 16:9 AR manual projection screen. Before I made the purchase I read many reviews, both positive and negative on many of Elite Screen's products. Most of the negative reviews had to do with problems with the retraction mechanism jamming or breaking. Since there were far more positive than negative reviews, I figured I'd give it a try. I paid $125 for it including my state sales tax and since it was Prime eligible, I didn't pay anything for shipping. When it arrived the box had a couple holes in it and a few serious dents and I was certain the screen had been damaged during shipping, but on inspection there was a enough spacing with the foam packing spacers that it was fine.
Pros: I was surprised to find the main housing was metal; for the price I thought it would be plastic.
I have found the retraction mechanism to be very smooth; I had no problem pulling down the screen, locking it into several positions, and then releasing and having it retract. So far the mechanism seems pretty solid. Since I'm going to be leaving my screen down this isn't a big deal to me, but having read many other customer reviews it's important to a lot of other purchasers.
The contrast and overall sharpness are better than my original screen. It's not a huge difference, but enough to be noticeable. I think it is a bit more neutral in color balance as well. It is also a bit brighter, but that wasn't really an issue since my home theatre is in a darkened basement; I have to turn DOWN the brightness a bit to get the image adjusted correctly.
Cons: The included documentation is terrible! It consisted of a Screen Material Disclaimer sheet, which told me about "memory lines", a 'Universal Projector Mount' rebate form, an 'In-Wall Switch Rebate' form, an 'Elite Screens' brochure AND a single sheet about the 'On-Line User Guide or Download'. Since the User Guide is all of eight pages, and the Dimension sheet just a single page, would it have been that difficult to include? Evidently so; you'll have to go to their website to get that info.
While the Dimension Table sheet is quite extensive in giving you just about every measurement you could want or need about their product, to me there were three major problems:
1) The most important dimension, the distance between the wall mounting holes on the end caps was not even included! The measurement you need to determine where you are going to put the screws in your wall so you can mount the screen doesn't exist; you'll have to measure (or calculate) that yourself.
2) The Dimensions Table is in Decimal and not Fractional inches. Excuse me? The vast majority of us that have a tape measure don't have one that is graduated in tenths and hundredths of inches; I know they are available but most people don't own one.
3) The end cap measurements on the Dimension Table sheet are in Metric and not US/Imperial measurements - even more math that will have to be done to get mounting screws aligned correctly.
Installing it by myself was a little bit of a challenge; after I measured the placement of the drywall anchor screws (see the Cons) and installed them, it took a bit of effort to lift and align the screen with the screws to attach it to the wall. Even though the screen weighs only 21 pounds, lifting that above your head and trying to get two small holes on either side of the housing to line up with the anchor screws in the wall is difficult. I managed it after a few tries, but I'd recommend having someone else handy to assist you mounting the screen.
Overall I'm very happy with this screen and I have no problem recommending it. The edge curls and "waves" others have complained about with the various models of the Elite Screens I have not experienced with mine. Also the smell others have complained about in other reviews I have not experienced. Initially there was a smell similar to a vinyl window shade, but it dissipated within a day, so I can't complain.

Fantastic value and ease of installation for a budget screen!

I've been a customer of Elite screens for nearly 20 years now, and have always found their products to be as advertised. The Manual series pull-down, in particular, is a great product for people who want to dip their toe in the waters of home projection but who don't have a dedicated space to use as a single-purpose theater room. We have young children, making it difficult to get out to the theaters and don't have the space in our home to use just for a home theater, but we're also big movie fans who appreciate the big screen experience. This Manual Series 120" screen is the perfect solution for us. By day, the room is the kids' play area, and by night, the screen comes down and the grown-ups can get that movie theater experience without finding a babysitter.
The screen arrived well-packaged and in perfect condition. Inside the cardboard shipping box was a second cardboard box to provide more protection to the unit, and inside the second cardboard box the screen was packed in foam to ensure it would not be damaged in shipping. Amazon's delivery service was top notch, making it easy to schedule delivery at a time I would be home, and the delivery driver was extremely gentle with the package and helpful in bringing it into the house. The package is light enough that one person can carry it, although having an extra person around is helpful due to the long length of the package.
Installation was a cinch. Because our room is set up for the screen to pull down in front of a television, we opted not to hang it directly on the wall (which is an option), but instead use the 6-inch L brackets that Elite sells separately. The two brackets are easily wall mountable, three screws each into the studs and that was that. Once the brackets are up, it's a simple matter of lifting the screen into place and attaching. The entire process of unpacking the screen, mounting the brackets and then hanging the screen was completed in under half an hour.
My previous Elite Manual Series pull down screen had been their 106" model from 2014. This 120" model has a notable under the hood improvement. There is now slower retraction mechanism built in, so that the screen gently retracts when being put away. (The older model was much more forceful, making it recommended to guide by hand; this new version is simpler in that regard.). It also pulls down and goes up much smoother and quieter than the older model.
I am very happy with my purchase, especially for the $175 price point that I paid.

Great quality screen with some minor issues
Anthony Merchant✓ Verified Purchase•September 5, 2023
The media could not be loaded. This is my first quality projector screen and I love the quality of the image that Elite Screens provides at an affordable price. As far as image quality and brightness this looks great using my Epson 4k projector. Where I see some issues is with the retraction of the screen after once it's pulled on the way down. It does retract slowly and at first it was pretty loud noise, but after pulling it down repeatedly the noise isn't that bad. What is, when the screen stops retracting before it reaches the top. I have to constantly push it up to get it to fully retract. It's the the worst issue but it would have been nice if they had made it where the retraction mechanism could be adjusted in some form. As far as everything else goes this screen is fantastic and it showed up in great shape, install was easy using the pre installed hanging rings. It even came with the bolts and hardware to mount it to a wall. It's fairly light, with a well constructed metal body enclosure and hard plastic endcaps that blend well with the white ceiling in my house. I like the bar that keeps the entire screen straight at the bottom which looks nice when the screen is fully retracted. I noticed some very slight fringing on the edges of the screen but it's only noticeable if you are inches away from the screen and you were looking for it. I like that there is a blacked out portion at the top of the screen when it's at it's lowest locked in position. Since I have a ceiling fan in my living room this avoids the ceiling fan from showing up in the slightest. All around a very good product at a very reasonable fair price for a screen that gives you this good of a image quality. From my nephews PS5, Switch, my Samsung S22 Ultra, PS4, and PC, everything looks really great on this screen. The only cons would be the stalling retraction and some minor noise when it does. I'm still very pleased with this product and I will be recommending this screen for anyone I know who is looking for an affordable one that still provides great results. I would give this 5 stars but due to those minor issues I can't say it's at a 5.
Works pretty decent with light ambient light space
rajesh✓ Verified Purchase•August 14, 2023
I have been using this for a little over a week now, so far it doing it's job well. I love they delivered the 120" diagonal space without including the black borders, I have seen so many brands who don't do that. very sturdy, easy to pull and rollback. only issue I had was installing it in the dry wall with the anchor that comes with this product. I bought a new anchor and screws from Home Depot and installed it and it looks great in my room. though the product is serves it's purpose don't expect to use it in high ambient light areas, you will end with more wash out areas on the screen, otherwise it's great product and highly recommend it
