It's such a pleasure to have a well engineered and well manufactured product. This Made in the USA product is well worth the higher cost to have everything work as promised. You can get cheaper Chinese made models but they are not going to perform anywhere near this Volrath cook-top. I can see passing this on to my kids because it so well made. If your time is important and you don't want to waste it on poorly performing products that break after moderate use, this is your solution.
The Best Induction Cooktop That You Can Buy
Alan Robertson•March 10, 2016
Have had a steady rotation of two of these units at any one time for the last 5 years in a commercial kitchen. These things are put through a constant beating in my kitchen all day and night, and they hold up far better than similar less expensive units. If you plan on using an induction cooktop on a regular basis (daily or weekly) get this. The cheaper units work, but will wear out quick. Spend the money and get the beast from the start. Usual life expectancy from hard daily use is about two years of 6-9 hrs cook time a day.
Broke after just over a year of use.

On/off switch broke after just over a year of use in a restaurant. Sent for a repair (there is only one repair location in Wisconsin for this model - General Parts) and was told that the costs of repairing would exceed price of a new one. So much so for a commercial model that costs over $400 new and have the word "Pro" in the name. And don't even think you can have it repaired locally, Vollrath wouldn't sell the part. FYI, the unit is quite powerful; it heats up very quickly, but the faceplate and the control knob are too flimsy for a restaurant use. When the on/off switch broke, we thought we could have it replaced easily. Didn't expect that we had to throw the unit away just after a year. We wouldn't recommend it for any restaurant, and will never invest in this line of product from Vollrath again.
I do not recommend this induction cooker

Temperature control has a fatal flaw...in addition to a broken temperature sensor? Set on 150 degrees F, it finally "came to rest" around 197 degrees F. It took 35 minutes to get there! The iniital turn-on over shoot of temperature took the pan from 78 to 276 degrees F. It then descended slowly to just below the 200 degree mark. Clearly there is a substantial design flaw in the controller. I do not recommend this induction cooker. The temperature readings were taken at the inside bottom of the pan with a 1/2 inch deep layer of cooking oil. The pan was a 10 inch Emeral induction ready trilayer stainless steel fry pan.
This is pretty awesome, blows doors on a regular cooktop

This is pretty awesome, blows doors on a regular cooktop. Only 110v but has serious heating capacity, will boil water really fast, the timer feature is extremely useful, and the precision with which you can choose heat settings is astounding. I've only had it like 4 months so I don't know about the longevity. My only complaint is that when its not on, but plugged in it makes an electronic hum thats barely audible, when its really quiet in my kitchen I can hear it.
