Can cause neurological side effect - ataxia
Mike H✓ Verified Purchase•May 11, 2018
BE AWARE!! This is not a safe product and cause severe ataxia with our dog - where she had hard time standing and walking within 1 hours of topical application on the back as instructed. We chose the right product by weight for our dog and follow the instruction and our dog ended up in vet ER and another vet visit the next day costing over $500! We watch our dog super carefully and there were no other accidental ingestion that cause the neurological side effect. The active ingredient in this product paralyze the nervous system in the pests and sometimes can cause cross reactivity with dogs and inure their nervous system. Our poor dog suffered greatly with vomiting, weakness, difficulty standing and walking and only time will tell if she will suffer long term neurological damage. If you chose to use this product I HIGHLY recommend applying a tiny drop on your dog's back and see if they have any reaction with time then proceed slowly with care if no signs of side effect. There are report of similar neurological side effect from similar type of product and wish this could a common knowledge so we can be aware of potential risk. This is NOT a benign over the counter topical medication
We have been using it for a few months religiously as detailed on the package and it's useless. In the last week (9 days after application)

It just simply doesn't work. We have been using it for a few months religiously as detailed on the package and it's useless. In the last week (9 days after application), we have found 2 fully engorged ticks on our dog and one that was just beginning to feed. We take him up to our cabin on the weekends and despite brushing him after going outside and avoiding problem areas, he consistently gets tickets. Its really expensive and just doesn't do anything at all.
My dog had a bad reaction to this
Amazon Customer✓ Verified Purchase•April 28, 2018
I know a lot of people recommend this, but I wanted to share our experience with it. I applied it to my dog (he is a 51 lb adult wheaten terrier) and at first it seemed to not bother him at all. About 8-10 hours after applying it he started to act very anxious and kept trying to chew his tail thinking he could scratch his back that way. He was very restless the night after we used it so I decided to use a small amount of dawn dishwashing liquid to try and wash it off the next morning and he instantly relaxed as I was bathing him. I inspected the spots where I applied it on his back and it had left little scabby hive-like places everywhere it had touched his skin. I contacted bayer and they told me that irritation like this is normal and could last up to 48 hours. I would have never bought it if I knew that was normal. My boy was clearly irritated and in pain from it so I wasn't going to leave it on him. We'll be switching back to his oral flea meds. I feel like Bayer needs to be more open and honest about the potential side effects of this because I couldn't find anything about what my dog went through listed on the bayer website. He might just have super sensitive skin I'm not sure but I wouldn't risk using this ever again.
Bad reaction!
Patricia L. Walsh✓ Verified Purchase•October 13, 2017
Gave my Goldendoodle (5 months old) a severe reaction on his skin within 2 hours of application. 2 frantic calls to the vet and 4 baths with Dawn dish liquid he finally calmed down. He was whining and trying to bite at the spot it was applied and he hid in the corner shaking. My vet said the sensation he was feeling was like his skin was burning!!! Needless to say I cried that night after the crisis was over, I felt like a horrible puppy mom!
Dog had a toxic reaction...
M. Kennedy✓ Verified Purchase•September 4, 2017
Nothing is biting the dog but the dog had a pretty nasty toxic reaction to this product requiring a couple calls to the vet and an afternoon of bathing the dog to get as much of it off of her skin as we could. She was throwing up and had diarrhea for about 24 hours. Our vet doesn't like this product either. The dog is a Golden Doodle so if it's a breed issue...? We really don't know but I would not tell anyone I know to use this product.
