Outstanding! Simple and Inexpensive Lights (Great for Non-Techies)
Michelle Nightengale•November 27, 2015
I purchased this lighting kit back in May 2015 and added the PBL three-light set (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009PS7EN4) later in September 2015.
I'm using these for doing videos and webinars (on Google Hangouts) for my business, which is in startup. I'm very much a video amateur and just wanted something simple, reliable and inexpensive. I ventured into doing some simple green screen video in my home studio to increase the professionalism of my videos and needed the additional lights in this kit to do it.
I've been super happy with these and have recommended them several times to my colleagues also doing videos and webinars. These lights arrived on time and well-packaged. They're very lightweight and were simple to assemble. I have some severe mobility problems, including advanced rheumatoid arthritis in my hands, so working with my hands isn't easy. But even I was able to assemble these lights on my own. I loved that the softboxes opened up like an umbrella and I could simply snap the center ring into place.
I haven't used these very much yet, but I was able to get outstanding results with doing a green screen video once I got all the lights I needed. I'm working in a very small/tight space, so I'm especially happy that these lights burn cool. They won't heat up you or the room.
The kit is very portable and comes with its own carrying case, but I don't travel with it. I set them up in my own home studio and leave them up, so I can't speak to their durability during travel, but they seem like they'd do well.
If you're looking for something simple and inexpensive, I highly recommend these. They've been outstanding for me. :)

Easy to SETUP/TEARDOWN - Good Quality

I researched many lights including these before purchase. I decided to purchase these from the reviews I read here on Amazon. I am more than satisfied with these lights. SIMPLE and QUICK to setup/teardown. Travel bag is very convenient for me. The lighting, when allowed to warm up for a few minutes is PERFECT for room/subject lighting. I use these continuous lights for shooting video scenes indoors. It has really made a difference in my HD movie quality. I highly recommend
Have More Than Paid for Themselves - UPDATE: Do Not Use a Splitter to Add More Lights!

Used to setup a China lantern and a 300W bulb on a stand for interviews, it was sort of clunky and amateurish. Now I use these and a back light and I'm happy with the results. I carry a set of these in my car with me pretty much everywhere. They are portable, cool to the touch, and quick to setup compared to regular soft boxes (the ones with 5 or more bulbs I have seen take ages), I can have both setup in a matter of 7 minutes. I also use a Y splitter to plug in two fluorescent bulbs. (The 25W that came with it, and an Alzo 85W no flicker photo light that I purchased on Amazon. That's a 650Watt equivalent tungsten setup, for the price and amount of quality soft light these are able to pump out, you really can't beat them). I have used them to light College presidents, athletes, doctors, authors, US congressmen, even green screens. Setup is so simple. (Not Kino Flos by any stretch, but still very nice for the price.) They are also light, which, if you are working on a shoot in a hurried fashion, say, a doctor's interview in one room and then the B roll is gathered in another, you can easily unplug, move, and setup quickly. Another pro is that there is room in the bag for additional lights, which I carry, two 25W and two 85W CFLs, and an extension chord, and it all still all fits. I also usually put my tripod on top of the bag, and throw the straps around it, and I'm able to tote both the lights, tripod, and sound gear bag all in one hand.
Cons: After much use, setup, being thrown in and out of the trunk, gear stacked on top, these stands seem to now be somewhat flimsy/wobbly when raised to full height. The stands are metal, the rubber feet are nice, but the tightening mechanisms are plastic nobs. (far from C stands). Yet, because of the price point, rather than buy new stands, I will probably opt to buy another kit, and use my old one as a backup/additional. Also, someone knocked over a light during a shoot, and it bent the frame a bit, the light inside broke, which is awful because it was a CFL. It still works, just has a droopy side, which, I don't really care as long as it gets the job done. Not sure how another soft box would have held up in a similar situation.
A great investment for me, they are so quick, light, clients don't get hot, and they put out a lot of light if you use a splitter.
UPDATE: DO NOT USE A "Y" SPLITTER INSIDE OF THE BOX TO ADD ANOTHER LIGHT! It caused so much wear and tear on the fixture insight that both soft boxes have now fried themselves over the last two days. I even got shocked. I still agree with my above post, these lights have indeed worked well over the past 1.5 years for the price, but, I recently upgraded to the DayFlo Kit and I find it to be much more well-constructed and solid. It feels like a $300 kit. And, of course, I will not be using a splitter with my new lights.

Great for amateurs or pros

I purchased this for my home photography and video lighting needs. This is a professional, heavy duty lighting set up that will definitely fit the bill for anything you need. It provides great lighting. Even for just regular reading. The carrying case is well designed and made out of sturdy durable canvas. Everything about this is made to last.
One tip, they don't reference it in their materials, but they have excellent training videos on installation, set up and use on their website. The first time it can be just a little tricky. If I had a criticism, I would instruct them to put a little note that explains where their help videos are.
Also, I would like to see a little utility pocket on the inside outside to store small items such as wing nuts or whatever so you know where to look for them. But I definitely love this product.

Worked Great...For a While

These are great, economical lightboxes that I purchased to use for a weekly video we produce for my company's CEO. They're lightweight, easy to set up and use, and provide good, even light. However, one of them failed after less than a year of service (9 months to be exact). The bulb actually outlasted the switch/bulb housing, which is surprising.
We're going to take a chance and buy another set (it's more economical to buy a set than a single lightbox) and hope that it lasts longer than the first. Failing that, we'll spend more money on what we hope will be a longer-lasting, better-quality lightbox.
As I said, they appear to be very good boxes, so it's worth one more shot. If they had lasted at least a year I would have rated them five stars.
