Luckily where I live, they sell this sauce in many varieties. I was browsing on Amazon to see if I could get it at a better price and thought I'd share my opinion of this variety - Vodka sauce. I was told by a friend to avoid Vodka sauces in general as it has a weird taste.
However, my grocery store only had the Vodka sauce available at the time - the others were sold out. I decided to try it the other day and was happily surprised. Without telling my friend what kind it was, his comment was "Wow-tasty sauce, better than my "R@gu" when I spice it up!". lol. This Vodka sauce adds another dimension in flavor and a nice change to what I usually buy. The most popular brands have more sugar than this one and I've looked long and hard. Plus, this brand sauce tastes "FRESH" - not bottled. It's pricier and I never see it on sale but I think it's worth it. I believe my most favorite Rao sauce is the HOT and Spicy but they are all very good. Would recommend.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm a snob about jarred sauces. I'm too lazy to make my own sauce, but most of the sauces in jars are too sweet and are basically disgusting. I'm from NYC, where good Italian food is a no-brainer, so I grew up appreciating what good sauce is, but apparently the rest of the country has no standards if crap like what you find in most jars is the accepted norm. A friend's mom introduced me to Rao's marinara, which she uses when she doesn't have time to make her own sauce. It's fantastic. Real legit marinara that doesn't have a pound and a half of sugar added to it. The bright acidity of the tomatoes is front and center, and there's plenty of real onion and garlic flavor instead of the clearly powdered spices that are in most sauces. I loved the marinara so much that I tried the vodka sauce and was not disappointed at all. The reason vodka sauce has vodka in it is because the alcohol aids in breaking down and releasing flavors from the tomatoes, making for a deeper overall flavor. The texture of this sauce is perfect, it has just the right amount of creaminess without being too rich. I love this stuff.
