We rented two cabins at a state park over the Christmas holiday, and I bought these to be able to hang stockings on the fireplace mantle. Unfortunately, the mantle was very thick, and didn't allow us to hang these as designed. However, we placed them on their sides, laying them on the mantle, and they worked okay. I would buy them again, but suggest checking the thickness of the mantle where you plan to hang them.
Keep searching for better ones unless you need something now.

I'm keeping them because they're not awful but they're kind of cheap-feeling and aren't a single piece--there's a ridge where two pieces seem to connect. Also, keep in mind that these are going to hang differently on everyone's mantle depending on the mantle's design.

these are beautiful and quality and i love them, except that they don't always stay completely in place [but they can definitely hold a lot of weight...and the more weight, the easier it stays in place]...but i do have 3 small children. also - (kind of a "duh", but i didn't think about it before buying them), they do get super hot when we have the fireplace on.
