The best design of any head collars! I’ve tried several brands.

I have two dogs that pull and each one wants to be the lead dog. I had a Halti collar with another dog decade ago but couldn't remember the brand name. I tried two other brands and was disappointed. Halti has the best design and the extra clip to the collar helps. One of my dogs is a Houdini who was able to get out of the other brand head collars, attacked another dog and I went face down on the sidewalk. When I put on the Halti head collar, I let her try to get it off and she can't! The under chin straps is the key for keeping it on. NO MORE PULLING, NO ESCAPING AND NOTHING BUT WONDERFUL WALKS WITH MY GIRLS.

I originally bought the gentle leader as I was under the impression that was the most affordable option to help with my puppy's need to pull. Not only did this one end up costing less, it is so much more durable and comfortable for my puppy. The gentle leader was a mess trying to adjust and even when I thought I had it perfectly on my puppy's head per the directions, it seemed too tight and he was constantly tugging at it. We would be mid walk and he'd flop himself in the grass trying to rub it off his nose. This went on for two weeks before he managed to break the clasp that helps adjust the nose strap.

Enter the Halti. I had to do the proper measurements of course but the many different sizes that are offered is exactly what I needed so I didn't mind taking that extra step. My puppy is a jack russel terrier mix so we went with Size 1. He's already adjusting much better to this one, he'll paw at it at first, possibly out of confusion but after we get going on our walks he barely notices it. Not to mention this one fits him much more comfortably. With the gentle leader we would adjust per the instructions and it looked tight on him. Yet even then he would slip the nose loop. I'm loving how much more advanced this one is in comparison and will recommend it to anyone needing help with a puller.

P.S. it does work incredibly well at correcting that tugging behavior. Another tip I would recommend is trying to keep your dog behind or next to you while you get them used to this device. As I understand it, part of the reason dogs/puppies pull while on their leash is in part the leadership dynamic between owner and dog. Letting them walk ahead of you is signaling to them that they are the pack leader and so everyone else has to follow. A good way for them to understand that you're the one leading and calling the shots is to walk ahead or next to them while you continue to steer and correct which even means walking through doorways and all that.

Hope this helps!

I have a 220 lb mastiff who is still a puppy and will only get bigger. He's not a puller but an "out front" walker which was fine as long as he was in the loose leash criteria. Often I would have to stop and pop his leash when he tried to be too far out in front. He would unpredictably lunge at passing cars or trucks, and trying to prevent him from going into the street took a lot of effort on my part (I'm a 54 year old petite woman). He is also leash reactive with other dogs and men walking alone. After a lunge in which my ankle rolled, I lost my balance and I was dragged down the street. Fortunately he didn't hurt anyone or another dog, but that one "Freedoooom" moment was all it took for him (and me) to realize the prong collar was no longer going to work. So I got the Halti. Putting it on for the first time went better than I anticipated (lots of treats and patience is required for this). I bought a size 5 and I probably could have gotten away with a 4. My dog can breathe with his mouth open, drink and eat fine with this on. It has a padded strap across the nose, and I liked that for comfort over a Gentle Leader. There is no info on how to use the head collar, but there are plenty of informative videos online. He's worn it 3 times on long walks already, and the first 30 seconds he does paw at it a little. I call his name to distract him and reward him when he stops, and once we get walking he's fine. Today he tried to lunge at a car (the last two days he didn't care if cars passed by), and I gave him a quick pop on the leash correction It didn't hurt him but was a "what was that?!" And that was it. I wasn't fighting to pull him back like I would have to with a prong collar. I'm going to give us both some more experience with this before I try to pass another dog. I am very happy with the progress my dog has made with this and I've noticed he doesn't walk as far in front of me even though he has plenty of leash slack. The Halti has changed our walks for the better.
great product

my boyfriend and i were skeptical about this product, our dog was bred for sled racing and has been near impossible to walk on a leash without pulling, the video is from our first day using the halti, it took some getting used to for it being on her face but she did great, we started getting her used to it by rewarding when she smelled it, rewarding when she touched it, using a treat to lure her nose into it, then rewarding when she let us put it on. the product itself is great quality
if you are in between sizes i would recommend sizing up, we ordered the size 1 but the neck strap was too tight, we ordered the size 2 and it's a perfect fit. definitely recommend this product to anyone struggling with pulling :))
Not as comfortable for my dog

There are several changes to this model. The nose strap is wider, thicker and stiffer and the under chin loop shorter which makes putting in on more visually stressing for my dog. The neck buckle is heavier and harder to open. Takes a LOT of pressure to compress it enough to open. TIP squeezing the inserted clip with LEFT hand makes it a bit easier but still not easy. My dog is less tolerant of this model than the older, softer one; and it stresses him more than the older one. I would like to see both versions available. Fortunately, I still have the older one and use it on his long lead, keeping this one for the short lead. It's a workaround but not optimal. OPTIMAL would be having the other version available.
