A lot of unreasonable expectations from folks here.

You got two pounds of Wasabi Powder for 15 bucks. What do you expect? Freeze dried Wasabi flakes organically sourced and ethically produced while telling them bedtime stories? Laughable at best.
Yes there is filler, because it thickens the wasabi better than normal pastes. Normal pastes ask for 2-1 (Powder to water) ratios in order to make the paste, but this is almost 1-1. That means you save money yes, but the flavor will be more dull than the stuff that costs four times the price. Also if you really want to be pretentious you should be spending 100 dollars a pound with your pinkies up while you grate the root directly with a fancy grater. Real fresh Wasabi only keeps it's heat for 15-20 minutes before breaking down, but horseradish can go all night baby.
If you were expecting better for four times less I've got some news for you. It costs money to produce and sell products and the prices reflect that.
I got this product to add another depth of flavor to some of my fried foods. Wasabi, Horse Radish, and Mustards get their heat from Allyl isothiocyanate, which unlike Capsaicin is not oil based. Heat from Capsaicin can last tens of minutes or for some people cause a more severe reaction, whereas Allyl isothiocyanate can be cooled almost immediately by liquids or any compound containing oils such as milk, water, and if your at a sushi bar the rice and oily fish. This means my oily Japanese fried chicken gets a light kick on the outside that is relieved by the oily fats from the chicken within. It creates a flavor combo that packs a punch but wont knock you off the stool.

I go thru a lot of "wasabi", last time I bought 2 pounds, the company is now gone. So I took a shot with S&B, very happy, mixed easily, gave it a few to "set" and the flavor was right there. PLUS the package says Made in Canada. I know anyone can slap any label they want on a product, hoping it truly is made there.
not as hot as hoped

I was hoping this would be hotter but it isn't
I Ordered A Second Bag of S&B Wasabi Powder!
Rodney✓ Verified Purchase•September 4, 2023
I haven't opened the bag yet because I haven't finished the tiny .88 oz. can of S&B wasabi powder that cost me $4.59. I usually purchase the larger 3.88 oz. can of Kaneku wasabi powder for between $9 and $10.40. Why did I buy the small can for $4.59? To my dismay, powdered wasabi is disappearing from store shelves here in Hawaii. So far I have only found powdered wasabi in 2 chain supermarkets in the tiny .88 oz. size. Another membership Japanese store had lots of powdered wasabi but it wasn't worth the membership fee. Stores are no longer carrying powdered wasabi because customers overwhelmingly prefer ready to use tubes of wasabi paste.
Call me old fashion but I prefer the wasabi powder. I haven't found a tube of wasabi paste that is spicy hot. If you mix wasabi paste and leave it in the refrigerator for a day or more, it too looses the spicy kick. I am glad I found an ample supply of S&B wasabi powder. Keep a small portion for regular use and store the remaining wasabi in either the refrigerator or freezer.
October 2016: I liked the S&B wasabi powder so much that I bought another bag of S&B wasabi powder. I like spicy food so I add wasabi to much of the food that I prepare. Don't limit your use of wasabi to sashimi and sushi. Add it to many other non-Japanese dishes. I presume that since like me you bought over 2 pounds of wasabi powder, you are indeed using it in many different recipes. If not, I assume you must run a Japanese food service business.
