Cello is made of PLYWOOD and fingerboard is NOT EBONY
The Man✓ Verified PurchaseJanuary 4, 2018
This cello was falsely advertised as having an ebony fingerboard and maple body. The neck was made of maple and extended into the 'fingerboard', which was painted black. The body of the cello was plywood. Yep, plywood.
I immediately returned this piece of junk. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.
Quiet when needed - WOW when wanted!

Bought as a Christmas gift for my son - 5 months later we all LOVE it - Adds a whole new dimension to his cello playing - Unplugged he can practice without the whole neighborhood hearing - Plugged in - it simply ROCKS!

As a note - used with a normal Guitar amplifier you can get a bit of buzzing, a keyboard or Bass amp seem to work best and produce the cleanest sound for these.
Great instrument for the price!
Dr. Mom✓ Verified PurchaseMay 6, 2017
Based on other reviews, I didn't quite know what to expect. But I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this instrument. Unlike what was stated in other reviews, my cello came with the bridge installed. I should also mention that the photo is misleading in that you only get the cello, bow, and case. The cables, headphones, and rosin pictured are not included, although the description of what's included is accurate. That being said, I'm pleased with the sound quality. Yes, sooner rather than later I'll get new strings and a bow, but for more silent practicing and just having fun, I think it's a great instrument for the price.
Damaged Cello
J. F.✓ Verified PurchaseJanuary 14, 2017
This product arrived in an undamaged shipping box, yet arrived in terrible condition.

Why We Bought It:
My wife plays with an orchestra and has always wanted to try an electric cello. That being stated, she wanted to try a cheaper one (if you call $329.99 cheap) first before buying an expensive one later. My wife was happy that she was going to be able to plug the cello into my guitar distortions (which is a nice feature) and see what she could instrumentally create. She was very excited, but that didn't last.

The Arrival"¦ aka: the Issues:
First, as mentioned, this product arrived on time and in an undamaged shipping box. It was even packaged very well which impressed us greatly. However, upon carefully taking it out of its soft case, we discovered many issues.
1) There was a strange crusted wood putty-like material placed between the head and neck of the instrument suggesting a potential past repair. This wood-putty and/or plaster-like material flakes off in odd chunks and it looks as though it might have been from a prior repair"¦ but we honestly don't know. All we can say is my wife plays cello professionally and she is stumped"¦ which isn't a good sign.
2) The neck of the instrument was missing white paint down the entire back neck which was not the case in friend's models received who own the same instrument. Perhaps, this is something that changed over time since it shows no paint in the product photos, but it is odd why it would change unless the paint is cheap and/or cheaper quality and they didn't want new reviews about the paint rubbing off in costumer's hands while playing. A cheaper paint job might account for the scuffing issue we will mention later. Honestly speaking, is it a big deal... no, but it is worth mentioning if you want or are expecting a full painted neck"¦ yes. That being stated, the necks are not painted in the photo so take it as you may.
3) The black fretboard paint was scuffed near the head of the instrument into where the white paint was missing. There is no reasoning for this scuff other than they scuffed it prior to packaging and shipping.
4) There were black scuffs all over the white painted body of this instrument. There are many many scuffs throughout this instrument. Some very coarsely scuffed. Again, this couldn't have happened during shipping via how well it was packaged.
5) The entire instrument was covered with a wood and/or other forms of "dust" and very messy. When my wife first unzipped the cello from its soft case her face was priceless. She cringed and then lifted her hands to show all the dust on her fingers. The cello was literally covered in this odd dust. You can see it well in the one photo of the cello's head we took between the tuning keys. We attempted to wipe off the rest of the dust for the other photos.
6) CRACKS! There were multiple cracks throughout this instrument which is unacceptable for a supposedly "new" and costly instrument. This must have been packaged this was since it, again, was packaged so well. A new product should never arrive cracked.
7) It does not come assembled. Honestly, this was not an issue to use; however, my wife admits she thought it would come assembled after watching the product's video when they stated all the cellos are tested before they are shipped. This could be a bad thing since they test them and then break them down again, which could potentially affect the structural integrity of the bridge/etc. However, for a cheap-ish cello"¦ what can you expect?

We will attach photos if we can of each issue we mentioned above. In terms of the lack of white paint; again, perhaps they stopped painting the back of the necks for some reason. However, compared to fellow musicians with the same model cellos, they received theirs with white paint on the back of the neck"¦ so what happened with this particular model... we don't have a good answer other than there might be cheaper paint utilized now"¦ which is also disappointing.

Conclusion:
The concept of my wife playing an electric cello was too good to pass up, but we quickly learned an unfortunate lesson"¦ not all instruments are created equal. A replacement cello is on its way, so an updated review will be placed for that new cello when it arrives. That being stated, this "current" cello/product was terrible. Any product shipped with cracks, numerous scuffs, and covered in dust clearly is worthy of our 1 star rating. We hope this review helps
Good for night-time practice.
Amazon Customer✓ Verified PurchaseSeptember 13, 2016
Gets a decent enough sound. After I had a luthier do some adjustments, it's perfectly fine for quite night-time practices. I do notice that it's louder on the A and C than the G and D strings though. The strings it came with were super-cheap too, and the bow was almost worthless, and so was the cheap rosin that came with it. I used an older bow and rosin I already had and swapped out the strings for a $50 pair I ordered on Amazon, and now it's a good experience, though.
