The body is a plush touchable stuffed animal with a shaggy mane and tail, perfect for hugging. The well made wooden rockers are relatively flat so it is safer to ride. It is definitely sized for a younger child. I was anxious about spending so much, but my experience with Steiff has always been that their products are high quality. Even my husband exclaimed admiringly as we took it out of the box. I bought it for my granddaughter. I know she will be thrilled, but I will miss this endearing little horse when she is gone.
