you can't expect completely awesome. The liquid is murky
James M McKernanDecember 28, 2017
For about 12 bucks, you can't expect completely awesome. The liquid is murky, the wax isn't solid white...more of a grayish/white; and if you look at the picture closely, you will see that the product is as I described.
It functions as it should, so...
UPDATE: have had it for a week, and to be fair the liquid has cleared up quite a bit; looks fine, works fine.
Update: a few weeks later...the liquid is still clear, but now the wax takes hours to begin to move. The lamp isn't getting as hot as it did at first. Photo of two lamps, after running for an hour.
Cloudy Lava Didn't Congeal
EJNovember 30, 2017
I am happy with the "Lava the Original 14.5-Inch Silver Base Lamp with Purple Wax in Blue Liquid." but not the "11.5-Inch Silver Base Lamp with White Wax in Blue Liquid." I sent it back because the lamp had been shaken, and the lava would not congeal. Be aware that you might get a lamp that does not work properly. Some are defective, and others get damaged during shipping. I've enjoyed owning lava lamps over the years, and have had mixed results: they are not all equal, but please don't let that cloud (no pun intended) your judgment.

Update to original post:
I've since purchased the "11.5-Inch Silver Base Lamp with White Wax in Blue Liquid" directly from a supplier who deals in all items lava-related, and I'm very happy with it. It is virtually the same lamp as originally purchased from Amazon.com, and arrived in excellent condition.
cool little lava lamp

Cute light, the 11.5 inch is not the same as the regular lava lamp size. Its slightly smaller but a good size for a kids room. Its works great and the lava separates correctly.
I was really hoping the customer reviews about this product ...

I was really hoping the customer reviews about this product were wrong, but everyone was right. My lamp is a dud, and it doesn't function properly. I've tested the product multiple times over 24 hours and there's always just a big clump at the bottom.

edit: product sucks, don't but it, doesn't function as you would expect. Im starting at a blob after two weeks.
Still love it.

Bought in Feb 2017 and it is still going strong, I just had to replace the bulb yesterday. My daughter leaves it on 24/7. One thing I noticed is that it came with a 15w bulb, the kind uses for rock salt lamps. The replacement suggests 25w. I am sticking with the 15w because she does leave it on day and night, without any problems without the wax over heating. Makes me wonder if having that larger watt is the problem, with most complaints about the wax separating into small bubbles, mine did that too when I was a kid and left it on accidentally.
