Good Bargain for Intro Light Kit
Rob T✓ Verified Purchase•July 5, 2023
I bought this kit to create a basic home video studio. I knew nothing about lighting or green screens before I started searching and made the purchasing decision almost solely based on the reviews here. I bought the product for some interviews I needed to video and for general messing around.
The product arrived on time and was packaged very well. The backdrop stand is sturdy enough and I like the fact that you can adjust the height and length of it. The green/white/black backdrops seemed to be decent quality (I don't really know what a good quality one would feel like). We were able to iron/steam out any wrinkles/creases in it easily. The light stands are a little flimsy but they do their job just fine. You just need to be a little careful with them when you're expanding/collapsing them. Other than that they're fine. There are a few parts made of cheap plastic, like the knobs you use to screw the lights onto the stands. Again as long as you're careful with them, they seem to all work fine. As others have commented, the instructions that come with it are terrible. Visit the ePhoto website and check out the great video tutorials before attempting to put anything together.
You might want to buy some clamps to help stretch out the backdrops. I might also purchase a small fill light. A guy came over and used it and said there were a few shadows we needed to work out. I suppose it could have been the way the lights were arranged, but he solved the problem with a small fill light in front of the subject.
Overall, this was a good solid purchase.

Great value for anyone needing a solid continuous lighting kit

If you have a chance to get this set on sale, it's definitely worth it! Sure the stands are the typical "budget" quality, but they get the job done. The lights are nice and bright and diffuse very well. The muslin fabric is not super thick, but keep in mind you are supposed to light these from the front, so dont put the backdrop in front of a window. Oddly enough, the hairlight box is actually bigger than the keylights, even though it just uses a single 105W bulb. The attached photo is in a basement with s super low ceiling, and the fabric is actually folded in half in that picture. In reality it extends onto the floor very far!
Great kit for the money.

So you're buying a green screen kit on Amazon...you shouldn't be expecting top-of-the-line, professional equipment for around $200. I'll admit; I have no idea what a *professional* green screen kit would entail, but I can tell you that this kit is worth every penny.
I'll be using this kit for short videos and not much else...just something to mess around with as an amateur. The kit is impressive...the green screen itself seems to be of good quality. I found the stands that held up the screen more than adequate...very sturdy and well-made in my opinion. The horizontal load-bearing pole that stretched across the top, when put together for maximum length, seemed to handle the weight of the screen just fine with no bending. The black bag that held the stands and poles for the screen is quite nice and holds the pieces very well.
I don't have much experience at all with lighting, but the kit came with more than enough bulbs, none of which were broken upon arrival. They come very well packed so I imagine that people complaining of broken bulbs had their package seriously mishandled at some point. The stands for the lighting are adequate...two of them are not of the same quality as the screen stands one of the other light stands, but they do the job and just need to be tightened a little more. The lighting was more than adequate to produce really good green screen results in iMovie without much effort.
The kit also comes with white and black screens as well, which was a nice inclusion and they will come in very handy.
For the money, this is a great kit and you won't be disappointed. I feel like if they had included some clamps to hold the screen tighter this kit would be near perfect and like I mentioned before, the stands should all be the same quality but what was included was totally workable. I also wish the bag for the lighting was big enough to hold the 3 screens...it does but it takes some effort to get it zipped up.
All in all, I can say that my experience with this kit was better-than-expected and I would highly recommend it to any amateur out there looking to do some basic green screen work.

Great setup for those on a budget

The amount of stuff you get for the price is awesome. Was able to do a quality corporate interview type video using this setup both in house and on the road (both indoors though).
Light is bright and consistent, good intensity and balance. All of the stands are of good (not excellent) quality and sturdy enough for the job. Backdrops are great, wrinkled but whatever, there's ways around that.
All in all I would highly recommend this for the amateur professional on a budget, just keep your expectations in line with the cost of this setup versus other much more expensive setups.
Align you expectations:
-Setup and take down (after the first time) is easy except for the light boxes themselves, I just leave them assembled when transporting. Figure out what you can leave partially assembled before you go on an assignment.
-The bag they give you is very handy, straps don't seem super strong, but it keeps everything together.
-Invest in sandbags for every stand if you are thinking of shooting outdoors, the boom stand obviously need weight regardless of location, I don't really care for the bag they provided so I used a grocery bag with a rock in it because I'm high class.
-Leave time to iron the backdrops (or use clip to pull tight) if they are going to show. I have just used the black so far, and I spaced my interviewees so the lighting just showed pure black, so wrinkles didn't matter.
-I did get one broken light bulb which is annoying more than anything. New ones cost in the neighborhood of $30 at places like Calumet.
-Boom stand: this is the one challenging part of the whole bit for me. The articulating joint that holds the boom arm came with a broken handle and the second handle on it broke immediately on first use. The unit is still perfectly functional, I just have to keep track of these 2 handles and use them more like wrenches now. Again, still works, just annoying.

Excellent set up for some fun home photography.

Its a light weight studio. It works perfect for our fun photo shoots with our kids. Don't expect this to be some professional set up. I bought it as a lightening deal for a great price. Definitely worth the $ I paid but I don't think I would pay more.
The whole set up is very light. The lights will get knocked down because of this. The muslin is really lightweight as well. I was thinking of buying a canvas to hang but it would probably be too heavy for the polls that came with. Others have said that the instructions aren't clear. This is true if you need step by step instructions. We have some engineers in our family so it was an easy set up for us. Overall, I would recommend this if your looking to just play around, especially if you've got kids. Studio portraits are $$$. With this set up, you can take your kids pictures monthly, provided you have a proper camera and know how to edit. So many apps can do that too.
Hope that helps.
