Matte finish is Perfect final touch

Amazing Products! We just build an outdoor bar out of roughsawn lumber, and this matte finish was the exact look it needed.
We used the clear gloss varnish for the initial coats as required. I did hours of research before selecting Epiphanes. Our weather has many extremes, and many expert blogs recommended Epiphanes. Because it breathes, it doesn't get brittle over time. Project is time intensive--7-8 coats required initially BUT annual maintenance for continued protection is just light sanding and one coat.
Their customer support is outstanding. I am a total novice. They walked me through my questions and made additional suggestions. I messed up 1/2 way through and send a Sunday night panicked email--amazed when my phone rang Monday am. Their support Rep said he could sense my panic and wanted to reassure me, then walk me through the corrective steps. WOW! Bar is finished and simply beautiful.

Nice Matte Finish!!

I used this on our two front doors that I recently stripped and stained. I loved the way that the doors looked without the last sealer finish, but knew I had to seal them. I inititally used a high gloss sealer and I hated how shiny the doors looked. So I did some research and found my way to Epifanes Matte Wood Finish. I'm so glad to have found it, because I love the way it looks on the doors. Little to no gloss whatsoever, which is what I wanted. I would say it's pretty much matte with the slightest sheen.
I did thin it out a bit before applying as many reviews have suggested, and I'm glad I did because it is very much a honey-like consistency. I would definitely recommend this for someone who doesn't want that high gloss wood finish and something more subtle.
**Sorry the photos are sideways; no matter what I do they appear this way.

Excellent results, but a bit tetchy to apply

I wouldn't say this product is thick, at all. In contrast to the clear gloss Epifanes spar, this has a more liquid consistency. But it is fairly unfriendly on the brush, since it has a tendency to drag like glue "” more stringy than unctuous. The instructions warn not to overbrush. That's a bit of an understatement. You really need to get this stuff on fast and evenly. There is zero time to fuss. In this case, I was applying it as a topcoats over mutliple coats of the clear gloss spar.
I applied the first coat in a garage at about 78 degrees and fairly high humidity without thinning. No fun. Though I've had a lot of professionsl varnishing experience, the initial result looked very patchy, though somewhat better once dried. For the second coat, I thinned slightly and brought the door into an air-conditoned space at about 70 degrees. That worked much better, though it was not a joy to work with. BUT the final result was really superb.
I'll definitely use it again, but I'll be sure the conditions are right first.
