Nothing at this price point can beat Viair's tough 88P compressor!
Kenneth Keller✓ Verified Purchase•August 25, 2017
Nothing at this price point can beat Viair's tough 88P compressor. The long, 16-ft air hose and 10-ft long battery power cable are more than long enough for most cars, trucks, and SUVs. The air hose easily reaches down both sides of my Toyota sedan, making airing-up all four tires easy. The air hose even reaches into my trunk where I have a full-size wheel and tire in the trunk's wheel well (under the trunk cover)--no tire patch kit needed! I filled up my spare, in position, and it took a little more than a minute--it was down just 8 psi, not having been checked for almost 9 months! I also added 4 psi to my driver's side rear tire--it took roughly 30 seconds. I also double-checked the 88P's on-board pressure gauge and compared it against my a highly accurate Jaco Elite Pro tire gauge (NOTE: turn off the 88P to get your tire's correct pressure reading). Much to my surprise, both gauges read within 1 psi of each other. I later had a chance to help a neighbor by airing-up his high-pressure bicycle tires, which took less than 45 seconds for each. I'm very impressed, so far, with the 88P's performance, most especially the accuracy of its on-board tire gauge and its low noise level when in use.
So far so good

One of the tires on my car has slow air loss and I am tired of going to the gas station and ask for the air each time I fill up the tank. We also go on camping trips so having a flat tire patching kit and air pump is a must. I decided to skip cheap models and out of many at the same price range I picked this one due to the looks, build, reviews, power source connector, and the duty cycle that can handle large SUV tires.
I tried the pump on my odyssey tire that was at 28psi and it took about minute, did not time, to go to 35psi. I have borrowed the cheap model once before and it took almost forever to gain a few psi. You can tell how powerfull it is by the sound and it is not hot at all. I have not tried to inflat a tire from totally flat. In order to read the pressure you need to turn off the pump and restart the process if it is still low. I initally did not have faith in the built in gauge but luckily, the one on my pump is working properly. I compared its reading with the JACO ElitePro and they both agree, see the pix. Having said that, I still need to check and verify both of them from time to time. Many new SUVs or minivans have the second cigarrete style socket on the rear so going with the 12v cigarrate adapter connector is more convinient then popping the hood all the time but I am willing to trade it off for a better pump.

Love this thing

I hoped the positive reviews were right and they were. Turns right on and works immediately. I filled all four tires without a problem and then two on my buddy's car. I can't say how it would do filling them from total flat. I would imagine it might need to rest in between. But probably not. This thing is a champ. Totally durable. I've had it a couple of months, and I hope it doesn't fail me in the future.
I bought mine on sale so I can't complain about why I didn't give it 5 stars, but full disclosure: the gauge will usually be about 10lbs off. Apparently this happens because of the long hose. But if you figure out how much yours is off, when you use the extension hose, then you can just calculate from there, because it will be off the same amount each time.
I also wish it came with a bag or portable box. You can pay for one with a set, but I think it should be included for free. All my friends want to buy one of these and all complained that it didn't have a bag and had second thoughts.

Much better than the alternatives out there

I've tried all the cheap brands, but they've always been VERY loud and SLOW. I hesitated about getting this one, as the only power option was to connect to the battery, and the manual emphasizes that you MUST keep your engine running while using the air compressor. All that aside, I'm really glad I bought it.
I used it for the first time last night after I took off my snow tires and put the summer ones back on. The power chord that goes to the battery is relatively short, while the air hose is long. So you're supposed to connect it to your battery and set the compressor down around that area, then run the long air hose to whichever tire you're filling up. However, the gauge is built into the black handle, so you have to go plug in the air hose into tire's valve, then go back to the compressor to turn it on and monitor the psi, then turn it off when you've reached your desired psi. However, it can be a bit of a pain to release air from the tire, should you overshoot the desired psi (you'd have to go to the tire and press the release pin inside the tire valve).
Luckily, I had the foresight to also get this inline air gauge: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CJHU9W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
which worked out awesome. The end of the Viair air hose would screw into the inline gauge, then the other end of that gauge simply clips onto the tire valve (no more screwing!). Then if the psi is too high, I can turn off the Viair, and go to the inline gauge to press the relief valve to bring down the psi. This setup worked out beautifully.
In terms of the functionality of the Viair, it's great! Super quiet!! It was more of a muffled compressor sound, not very intrusive/annoying at all. The tire with the lowest psi was at 20psi, and it took less than a minute to bring it up to my desired 35psi (I didn't time it, but it was quick). So I was very impressed.
The built in LED light is useless, not very bright at all. I guess it would be better than nothing if you were stranded in the middle of nowhere and it was pitch black. But like I said above, the power chord to the battery isn't that long anyways, so you couldn't bring the compressor to each tire to shine some light on the valve anyways.

Fast Filling, Muted Sound, and Long Reach

I bought this one because it has a higher output and maximum pressure. It fills my tires quickly and brought a donut spare from 22 pounds to 60 very quickly. You can feel the heat where the piston is so make sure that you don't run it longer than recommended before letting it cool down. I like having the battery clamps instead of the lighter adapter, and I filled my tires without bothering to turn the engine on and it didn't affect the battery at all.
The combination of the long cord and adapter hose allows it to reach most anywhere with ease. Wish that it came with a carrying bag, but will find something around the house to put it in and toss it in the trunk. I like having jumpers, tire pump, and tire patch kit along with fix-a-flat at the ready.
