I tried literally a half dozen different foil cutters and this is my favorite. Others I've tried only work ok in the beginning, until the blade turns dull. This one seems to last and last.

I bought this item as a replacement for a completely different wine foil cutter. The original cutter was the type that had fixed cutting wheels. e.g. The wheels did not turn as you tried to cut the foil. With this cutter the wheels DO turn. Minor detail, right? Absolutely not! The fact that the cutting wheels turn while you're cutting the foil makes 1,000% difference in the experience. In fact, this product does it's job well whereas the previous product I purchased was moderately terrible.
I think in previous reviews people complained about the build quality or the cutter being plastic or whatnot....don't worry about that. For $5 (or $7 or whatever I paid) what are you going to expect? The build quality, in my opinion, is just fine for this type of product. I feel like it's plenty sturdy and, to be honest, if this one broke and I had to buy another one I would do it gladly.
Buy the thing. Drink a bottle of wine. You'll be happy.

It works great on corked wine bottles, but not for the twist caps (also covered in some type of foil). That's ok tho as the twist cap bottles usually have a little tab to help remove the cover. We were just using a knife before to start the foil on our standard wine bottles. This is definitely quicker and more handy. Less of a chance of harming ourselves.

I bought this foil cutter a couple of weeks ago and it has worked wonderfully. I was skeptical of their claim that you could cut the foil with this thing with a quarter turn. But in most cases it does just that. And tougher foils generally only require a half turn. I would have given it five stars except that I noticed when I came to write a review that the price is now more than double what it was when I bought mine a couple of weeks ago. I can still recommend it because it works wonderfully - and if you open a good many bottles of wine, cutting the foil with an inferior cutter is just a royal p.i.t.a. - but what's up with going from $5.02 to $10 and some change?
