I'm writing this review as both a parent, former player and youth ice hockey coach of five years. The neck guards young players have today are leaps and bounds beyond what I wore as a player in the '90's. This is much thinner, more comfortable and lighter, yet provides stronger protection against cuts and realistically that is the true purpose of a a neck guard.
While they are not required in most leagues I recommend them for all players.

I have two grandsons that play ice hockey, 6 and 8 years old. The 8 year old loves the neck protector, the 6 year old finds it uncomfortable. I think it is still a little big for him. Hoping he will grow into it.
