Easy replacement/repair of RV automatic step
EngineeringAugust 13, 2017
Kit arrived on time and installation was a snap. Dealer estimated the repair of the step at $500+ and I suspect has planned to simply replace the entire assembly. The videos on line implied that the replacement was problematic but that is not the case. We recommend that anyone with this model of RV step keep a spare motor assembly handy. Also, the bull gear assembly in the main mechanism is subject to failure also, creating a step that will not fully retract and will make a distinctive noise. That gear also can be replaced easily or rotated 180 degrees and left in place for years of additional service. We do not recommend that the entire assembly be replaced for more than $500 so question the dealers!
So I ordered the ACI 83094 Power Window Motor which had the gear and was easily wired into the existing wiring

This did not fit my Kwikee Two Step gearbox without modifications. The electrical connection was different and the motor does not have the gear for to make it work with the original gearbox. So I ordered the ACI 83094 Power Window Motor which had the gear and was easily wired into the existing wiring.

The bottom line, if this fits your gearing, get it as you can always rewire. If your gearbox requires different gearing like mine, get the ACI 83094 Power Window Motor which is much less expensive.
... Jayco Redhawk 23XM after our motor started making a horrible noise and stairs were jsmming
Albany BudgetAugust 5, 2017
I just installed this on our 2014 Jayco Redhawk 23XM after our motor started making a horrible noise and stairs were jamming...finally died altogether. I looked at the you tube videos and decided to give it a shot rather than paying big money to have a tech replace it--I am not mechanically gifted by any means but I got it done pretty easily. Here is what l learned
1. At least in my model steps you must take the Clovis pin out.to get at the motor. This could be the hardest part of the job and you may need a jack or something to hold the steps up while you pull the pin and keep weight of stairs off the pin. I used a couple of blocks of wood and a lot of elbow grease but I got it out.
2. My hookup underneath was hardwired so no plugging or unplugging of the 4 point just the 2 point plug that goes straight to the motor.
3. Take note of the gears and washers on old motor and place them on new motor exactly as they were on the old one.
4. Before attaching motor, reattach Clovis pin to the steps.
5. Install the motor and plug in the 2 wire connection.
6. When doing all the above keep your door open and make sure that your door switch is in the off position. After step, 5 engage the switch and close the door, You are done!

Our steps work great now and I saved us more than few bucks doing it myself. Thanks Amazon!

One final note this motor replaced ours which was a 1101422 model. There is no difference other than the 422 model is sold as as part of the integrated gearbox assembly approach -- based on what I see you should not need a gearbox -- a replacement motor will do the trick!!!
Easy install

After replacing my bad controller on my Kwikee steps, the motor went bad 3 months later. This motor did the trick at a good price and arrived quickly!
Jayco Greyhawk perfect fit AM motor Kwikee steps
RV4RNJuly 14, 2017
Jayco Greyhawk has a Kwikee "double step" with an electric motor by AM 214-1001 2G16. I searched for hours for a replacement reading blogs, contacting Jayco, AM, and kwikee, and as a last resort called three Camping Worlds in VA. This motor worked. Three hex nuts and its replaced! Twenty mins tops. CW had no openings, wait was months so we ordered here and in two days it was fixed. We are a lawyer and nurse, not DIY folks and did it with no hastle. The part is exactly as pictured. The Kwikee double step stairs now open/close with door instead of there being a grinding noise as the poor thing strained. Highly recommend using this part for a replacement even if youre not handy. It was that easy! I posted bc I wanted to help spare others the research. The motor is made by AM and all the stairs in most RVs are by Kwikiee. Image shows 3 bolts.
