I've been a HUGE fan of green Chile's my entire life, and for a great many years, I've heard that Hatch Chile's were absolutely the best, though I'd never been able to purchase them in my section of the country. I'd always had to "make do" with Ortega brand green chile's. Finally, I discovered that I could get the real deal Hatch green chiles on Amazon, so I bit the bullet and coughed up Way more than Double the cost of the Ortega's, in order to get those HATCH Chiles... As it happened, I had a can of Ortega's on hand and decided to do a Head to Head comparison. Remember, the Hatch chiles were more than double the cost of the same weight in Ortega chiles... And in absolute truthfulness, there's No appreciable difference between them, except for the price difference, which is frankly, egregious!
Summation: Unless a 27oz can of Hatch chiles can be had for under $4.50, don't waste your money. Instead, I'd heartily recommend Ortega's!
Edit: after reading several reviews claiming that these weren't actually chiles from Hatch, New Mexico, I took a closer look at the label... It's true. These ARE chiles from Mexico, NOT New Mexico (see attached picture)! This is a Highly decietful practice! Shame on Amazon for allowing this to continue! Do Not Buy This Product!!!!!

I bought a can of "whole chilis" to make chili rellenos....They are the whole pepper .but only 4 were not sliced or torn open. So much for WHOLE. They do not seem to be fire roasted and do not look like hatch chilis.. I have eaten hatch chili in Albuquerque and these do not measure up, especially for the price. You can use in a casserole or dice for salsa and for much less money but cannot use them for rellenos.
Don't recommend this. Sorry.

Way over priced. I can buy the same size can from walmart.com for less than half the price. PLUS, these tend to be tougher chiles than other brands.
Beware

These chiles were NOT from Hatch, NM. The label states: "product of Mexico not grown in New Mexico" So disgusted we have not even opened the can. And I'm from NM, living in MT now. Sure they may be the same variety as grown in Hatch but come on Hatch Chile Company of Albuquerque and Amazon.
THIS IS NOT THE REAL HATCH CHILE FROM NEW MEXICO

Hatch Chili Company Hatch Whole Green Chilies, 27-Ounce
I bought a 27 oz can of these "Hatch" chiles to make some chile rellenos because I could not find any fresh Anaheim chiles in the store. As a New Mexico resident for many years, I am familiar with Hatch chiles and how they are used in cooking. Sadly. these chiles are NOT New Mexican chiles, but are from Mexico and are sold by Amazon under the label "Hatch" with the native indian Zia logo. This is a deceptive marketing ploy, and if you buy this stuff, you are not getting what you think you are.
These chiles are slit down the sides and will not hold cheese for the rellenos. But more importantly, they have a very "vinegary" taste, which is probably due to the preservative that is used in the canning of the chiles. The preservative is listed as citric acid, which is not unusual, but there is WAY too much of it in the product. The chiles taste like pickles.
In looking at the Amazon site for this product, there is no indication that this chile is not the real Hatch chile from New Mexico. In reality it comes from Mexico and is labeled at "Hatch Chile". I have run into this deceptive marketing practice before from Amazon, and I am more and more reluctant to purchase things from Amazon.
