Helps with Problem Notes

I bought this filter/mute to improve the response, tone, and intonation of the spatula key notes on my alto. I definitely notice an improvement in my low B-flat - the response is better (small, but noticeable), the tone is less edgy, and the intonation is improved (the B-flat was sharp and the product helps flatten it out). As for the other notes, the effect of the product is marginal - B natural might have a better response, but not C or C-sharp. That said, I have found this product indispensable and have used it throughout my college career.

I have used handmade sax mutes for 40 years. For the new players, this mute will not make my sax play quieter. This mute will change the response and timbre of my saxophone, which will allow my to play quieter without sacrificing agility. I will be sacrificing intonation on the lowest 3-4 notes.

It's small easy to manage and it doesn't take any space at all. It gives me a nice full tone with the lower range notes and there are moments that it makes me think that it's actually making the lower notes come out easier. It does not affect the tuning in my extreme high and middle range notes yet, however, depending how tone filter is placed in the saxophone bell it does affect the tuning of the very low range notes (C#, B and Bb). My low Bb sounded 1/2 a step lower (A). What I did to raise the lower note's tuning is that I placed the Tone Filter higher up in the bell vertically and got better results in the lower range notes tuning. Placing it deeper into the bell horizontally definitely brings down the tuning.

I have one for my Alto also...it's impressive how much this simple tool softens the vibes and makes playing so much more controlled...my breath goes so much further and the sound is not snuffed but rather tamed....it does not make your sax quiet or deaden the sound...so don't expect to play in middle of the night un-noticed.... very worthwhile looking into....I truly love it...gj
