Need to improve customer service and product- don't recommend purchase

Had I written this review in April 2017 (when I purchased this unit) it would have been at least a four star review- but after using it for a while it has become un-useable. I used the XGPS150A to provide GPS to my iPad Mini and run Navionics + (a boating program app). Generally I could get the GPS unit to link with the iPad Mini via Bluetooth (although it sometimes required a couple of tries to connect). Then comes along Apple iOS updates and no longer will the Bluetooth connect. Spent 30 minutes online chat with Apple Support who says contact the manufacturer. Sent email to Dual Electronics and spent 45 minutes on phone with tech support.Dual Electronics created a firmware update to counter this problem. So, I have pulled out the old Microsoft based laptop (since Dual Electronics doesn't have Apple compatibility to do firmware updates). The Dual Electronics guy was nice and assisted me in updating the firmware (to ver 2.1.2) and resetting the GPS. Still Bluetooth fails to connect with any of the 3 iPads (various generations and versions of iOS) or my iPhone 6+. Tech support guys has no clue what to do next but took my name and number and promised to call me back after he talked with the gurus at corporate. Never got a call back and 4 tries to call tech support failed to connect but I left my cell number via SMS twice. Still in warranty but no offer to return or replace this product that is NOT working. Oh, and the email reply I got suggested that "when we tested the XGPS150A with devices running iOS 11, it was functioning normally". Well if normally means it can't connect to an iPad via Bluetooth then I suppose the device is pretty worthless now to those of us who use Apple products. This is a very disappointing result and IF Dual Electronics steps up and makes this right I will come back and give them a five star rating. But for now, I am a very unhappy customer.
Works maximum one time then never Acquires satellites ever again.

This device does not work. Will not acquire satellites which let's face it, is its only job. I'm very disappointed. It is so compact and easy to carry around but it's a pity it will not even acquire satellites when on the ground. I tried it in an airplane and it doesn't work. It does nothing that the manufacturer says it does.
I purchased the marine version which is supposed to be just sturdier for marine environment but does everything the non marine version does. It does absolutely nothing that it's supposed to do. It only worked once on the ground and then once during flight. The GPS light just flashes for hours without ever locking on to satellites. Even turning on and off or trying different configurations don't work. Manual says to check troubleshooting section in manual before any returns but the manual has no troubleshooting section, lmao!
Package mentions WASS. There is no WASS, only a WAAS. My suspicion is this is an old product with a typo that's still being sold or its a knock off of the real thing. The label on back doesn't line up properly with its recessed area which always raises red flags and makes me think low quality or knockoff.
I'm currently returning this knockoff of a product. Sad, i really hoped this would work.

I purchased this about 3 weeks ago and I finally got the opportunity to test it out on a solo cross country. I am a student Pilot working on getting all licenses to get into the airlines some day and I very impressed with this product. For its age it still works perfectly and I am using iOS 10.2.1. The accuracy is amazing, up to 5 meters which is roughly 20 feet. As far as the battery life goes, its ideal, fairly average. It is a small device so you can't expect too much. The one draw back I had using it was finding a GPS satellites takes forever sometimes, but hey it's still functional. While I'm starting the engine and getting the weather I'll already have it on ahead of time.
This works great under open sky

This works great under open sky, will track me within a few feet. Varies a bit under tree canopy, but that's acceptable to me. I use this in a little clear dry pouch on my kayak and it works great. Works great on the dash of a car, will actually track the lane I'm in if there is little tree canopy over the road. Also use it mt. biking all the time. Would wear it on top of my helmet until my friends stopped riding with me, now I strap it to the handlebars or backpack and my friends ride with me again:) Definitely got better tracking on the helmet though. Also have tested using it for work, locating soil test pits and other site features. Again, great under open sky, but not as great around buildings & trees. It's definitely not a substitute for a sub-meter asset locating GPS. I would definitely recommend this for its intended purpose. More accurate than my iPhone 5 which is what I wanted.
Poor lifespan

I've bought this receiver back in '14 to be connected to my Android phone which had poor GPS reception signal caused by my car's sun protection film.
At first, the device exceeded my expectations! However, after 3 years of intermittent usage (during travels mostly) the device cannot hold battery charge nor satellite lock !
I'd understand losing the battery retention for an always connected devices, but not for one that I use months apart.
Also, I'm not sure why DUAL decided to go with Mini USB port instead of Micro.
I've updated to the latest firmware 1.3.4 but no luck. So basically I'm left out with a device that cannot retain power nor function for more than 3 minutes !
