No alert schedule.
BH✓ Verified Purchase•June 12, 2017
I have had two drop cams for probably 4 years. They're great cameras. I used them to send alerts of motion on a schedule and I pay the $9.95 for cloud recording. Nest has now dropped the alert schedule from their app and you can only send alerts based off the location of your phone. This doesn't work for me so I have to stop using both cameras and find a different brand that has an alert schedule.
nest was bought out by Google= problem
Ed✓ Verified Purchase•May 3, 2015
Buyer beware. I've had with my dropcam for over a year before nest/Google bought them out. Cost me $150 and it worked great. I was recently told that if I don't agree to giving Nest/Google permission to allow third party access to my data, then nest will make my camera inoperable and that is exactly what they did. How is it that I can buy something from a company and they later (year and a half later) come back to me to tell me that I need to agree to their NEW EULA or else they shut it off??? I now own a useless Dropcam that I paid $150 for because nest disabled it. I called and complained to nest and asked them to at least refund my money since they're the ones who changed their policies and nest wouldn't budge. They insist that I "migrate" to their new system which includes allowing third party access. To what degree of "access" they are allowing I am not sure as the eula is very vague. I will never trust or buy anything from nest or Google ever again. How can ever trust to buy something from them without worrying about them changing their policies in the future, and then disabling said equipment (of which I own, bought and paid for) when I don't agree with their new "new"policy. ... never again.
Awesome baby monitor
Rohit Mordani✓ Verified Purchase•November 29, 2014
I just got my dropcam today and I set it up. I have been using it for a couple of hours now and this is my feedback. Note that I use it more like a baby monitor.
Pros:
- The setup was really quick and painless
- Camera quality (build) is really good.
- Mounting it was super easy as the plate is separate than the camera. It's easy to adjust the camera post installation of the wall mount plate
- The lag is about 3-4 seconds if you use HD video though my upload speed is only 5 Mbps. I reduced it to non-hd which is also really good and the lag is only 1-2 seconds.
- I can use multiple devices to view the feed and also use it when I'm not home.
- Most baby monitors are around the same price but don't give Internet access
- Video quality is way better than any baby monitor. Wide angle view covers a good area. More than any other baby monitor I have used.
- Night vision quality is really good. Much clearer than any other baby monitor I have used.
- The speaker is good especially when you are training your baby
- The web app and mobile app are not pretty simple and straightforward and support multiple cameras
Cons:
- The setup required me to connect the camera to my laptop. Not really a big deal. It's just that with the 60 second setup I expected to setup the camera via the mobile app. The pro one supports that I think. Not really a con but a minor expectation of mine that was not fulfilled
- Video goes over the Internet and lives on some server is always a potential security risk I guess. I have it mounted on the wall and pointing directly down to the crib so not as much of a big deal for me. I even unplug the camera if I need the privacy.
- I will have to pay for the DVR service if I choose to. Right now I'm using the live view so I don't see the need for it but it would be good to get that for free ;-) $100 per year is not that expensive anyways and I might pay up for that if I really feel the need for it

Peace of mind when traveling!

We went on a month long trip, and had to leave our cats behind. We hired a pet sitter to come every day. The Dropcam was so easy to set up. It was really just plugging it in and letting it do the rest.
When you go to the website where your feed is displayed, you can password protect it for safety, which is great. The sound and image are quite clear, even in the dark. When we set ours up there was a 15 day trial period of the DVR playback, so for half of our trip we were able to rewind and listen and see when the sitter was there (plus check to make sure our place was okay.)
Even after the DVR trial was over, you can still see on the timeline below the image when there was movement, as there would be a color in the time line (we just couldn't go back and see what the movement exactly was.)
This is wonderful peace of mind for travelers or parents or anyone else who want to peek in while they're away. I've recommended this camera to everyone I know who travels.

Pretty good camera but you are on your own.

The camera comes as advertised. Sets up in just a minute, has a great picture but has some issues. I have a top of the line Linksys router and get great coverage especially in the area I wanted to place the camera. I have an app to verify Wi-Fi strength and the area I placed the camera was receiving great Wi-Fi and internet speed. I noticed right away that the camera disconnected from the Wi-Fi in about 10 minutes. I figured out that if you just log off and log back on it comes back up. This was about 25 feet from the router with no obstructions in the way. I tried to call tech support and never was able to speak to anyone. When I moved the camera within 5 feet of the router it worked great. The location was OK so I did not pursue the issue any further. You need a very high speed internet connection as the camera uses .5Mbs per camera to upload when live or recording. I have 1.5 upload speed and don't need cloud recording so I googled how to turn off the 14 day free cloud trial recording period that comes with the camera as to not use any bandwidth. The only way you can turn it off is to contact customer support. What customer support? They don't exist. I tried calling and then sent an email. It has been a week now and I have not received any response from anyone and the free recording is still on. I did receive an email survey about their customer service and how they handled my request, huh? So I guess they got it, just did nothing with it. I just turned off the camera until the 14 day period runs out by its self. I check the camera every day, you can turn it on and off from any mobile device and it works great. My advice:
Make sure you have enough upload internet speed if you plan on recording.
Expect to place the device close to your router
If you encounter a problem, plan on trouble shooting it yourself.
If you figure out a way to contact customer support please post how you did it in an Amazon review so the rest of us can use them.
