Cheap wood. I had to unscrew and redo the latches myself just so it could shut. Didn't help that the lid itself was a bit crookedly put on. As I was fixing the latch, whatever was put on the chest to make it look aged, came off on my hands.
Otherwise the chest served its purpose. Was a present to my D&D dungeon master to keep his dice, notes, miniatures, and pencils in.

Well I tried to give it no stars but I couldn't write a review then. This is a very cheap poor quality box. $30 is insane for this p.o.s ! I've never been more disappointed with a purchase from amazon. Hinges are crooked, the rivets that hold the "leather" straps are not even close to symmetrical, The bracing on the bottom sucks one side flush other side like quarter inch away, just garbage if it was $10 I'd be like it is what it is but $30 I really feel like I got bamboozeled

This thing looks amazeballs in the photos and it wasn't exactly cheap, so I expected to at least be satisfied if not totally overjoyed about its quality. Foolish wench am I!
My main issue is that the varnish comes off all over everything. Since it was for my 4 year old to use in his pirate adventures, that's a deal breaker. My hands were covered in black after handling it for just a few seconds. I tried cleaning the box. I spent 15 minutes wiping it down thinking it would eventually stop spreading its negativity all over me and my house. Alas, the wiping only seemed to anger the box further and increase the amount of soot it was releasing. I hate this box and everything it stands for.
