Did not work, but the ring attempted had a broken thread.

I got this to remove the ring on a 2007 Corolla. The ridges that this tool hooks to were not real big.
I ended up ordering Toyota part 77144-04010 from Amazon and taking a hack saw blade at an angle and cutting the ring enough to pop it open with a screwdriver at about the 1 'o clock point if you look down on it. It unwrapped and about the 3-4 'o clock position revealed the problem: a piece of thread in the old ring had broken loose and jammed in the threads there. There was no way that ring would turn.
I have no way of knowing if it would have worked on a non broken ring, but it seemed OK otherwise.
I did pull the wing nuts and put on regular nuts as I had to try lots of torque, but it did not turn.

Worked great on my 7th gen Honda Civic. Perfect fit!!! Way better than trying to loosen or tighten the lock ring by hand!!!

I purchased this to help remove a plastic locking ring (also called a union nut) around the fuel tank hatch after doing it several times with a large set of tongue and groove pliers. I must say, this tool made it infinitely easier. It fit very well on the grooves in the locking ring once I sized the arms and I didn't even need to use a socket, just placed both hands on each side of the tool and firmly turned counter-clockwise. Took me about ten minutes to get the ring off with the pliers, but only a minute with this tool, so it may not be worth it if you already have the pliers laying around. Also, this tool did not mar the ridges on the locking ring, whereas the pliers most definitely did. For a reference, I have a 2001 Audi A4 Quattro and this tool fit nicely.

Before buying this item, I attempted to remove the lock ring on my wife's Acura MDX 2004 with a large flathead screwdriver and a rubber mallet; one wack and I carved a deep groove into one of the plastic rings -- and the ring didn't budge at all.
This item is super heavy duty! I purchased this over other cheaper designs because it allows removal of rings that are mounted deeper below the floor level (reading reviews of the cheaper designs with a fixed top bar, a common complaint was the arms weren't long enough to reach the rings). The only criticism that I have is that the arms are angled past 90 degrees, but that didn't seem to affect the performance at all.
In short, this tool made it easy to remove the MDX lock ring. I expected to have to fight the ring, but it loosened up surprisingly easily on the first pull. Highly recommended!
