Cold for HOURS
MGMJuly 16, 2016
I needed ice-packs to keep breastmilk cold for 14 hours on a day trip. I also wanted wanted that were inexpensive so that if TSA made me throw them out, I wouldn't be throwing out ones that cost a lot of $. These worked great. They were just slightly too big for my Medela cooler, so I folded the edges under before freezing and they fit perfectly inside the cooler. I used 3, and even though I kept adding warm milk to the cooler during hot day, only the top ice pack melted, and it was even still cold. The middle one was slushy around the sides, and the bottom one was still frozen. These are great little ice-packs that didn't get wet with condensation as they warmed up. Bonus was the TSA didn't bother me about them at all, even when they were starting to soften.
Great for kids lunches

I love these! I bought them for my kids lunch boxes and they work amazing. There is no "wet" ice blocks at the end of the day and when the kids get home they still are cold and partially frozen. Food is still cold when they get home and I appreciate that. They also clean up nicely when a spill on them happens so I would buy them again.
No condensation

I use these in my insulated lunch bag. They can last until my lunch time and keep my food perfectly chilled until I am ready to eat. We have a refrigerator at work but also lunch thieves so I keep mine in the bag. The best thing is that the outside of the gel packs are not plastic, its a cloth like material so they do not collect condensation on the outside and get everything wet. When I spilled something on them I washed them by hand when they are fully thawed out using a little dish soap, dry them out on the dish rack and they are good as new.
Works great to keep my meals COLD at work, NOT frozen
ChelseaDecember 11, 2015
I travel for work. A lot. and typically when I travel, I go away for 3 days at a time and drive at least 2 hours to get to work. I then stay in a hotel for those days and then drive home afterwards. Because I stay in a hotel, I prep my 3 days worth of meals before I go in. I have a refrigerator in my hotel room, but need to keep my food cold for approx 16 hours. I was finding this to be very difficult. When I pack my dinners for the road, I use a 12 can cooler, which I find works quite well and holds a good portion of food. I was looking for a solution that would keep my food cold, as well as take up minimal space in my cooler, as I needed to fit three meals in there. I came across these and was skeptical. I was concerned that with the soft moisture-free coating, it wasn't going to maintain the level of coolness I desired.

The fact that the case came with 12 in it was great. I've been able to use about 4-6 at a time and keep everything nice and chilled, as well as dry because there is no sweating of the ice packs. They're small enough to where I can fit a handful of them in my freezer at once and not worry about it taking up too much space.

I do have a few gripes with these ice packs though. The first, they are difficult to clean. If anything leaks onto them, you actually have to hand wash them with soap and water, and then let dry. You can't just try it with a paper towel and expect it to be dry like a typical ice pack. Second, I dropped one or two on the floor when frozen (butter fingers), which if you drop it the right way, or wrong way I supposed, it can cause it to tear a little, which means that you have the gel inside leaking out. Not a huge deal if your ice packs are never really thawing completely, I suppose, but for me it created an issue. So I had to toss a few because I dropped them and they tore. For the price point and quantity included, this isn't a deal breaker. Because they are so cheap and you get a good bang for your buck, they are easily replaceable.

Overall, this is a product I would recommend for people who are looking to keep food items cold, NOT frozen. And probably not for transporting something over and extended period that you are worried about spoiling, or thawing and then it being unsafe to refreeze.

These did work well for 24 hours in a cooler but I would not compare them to dried ice at all. They do not sweat which is great. I put them in the cooler with food that was already cold on a Thursday around Midnight. By Friday night they were warm. I do think these are a good item but not for over 24 hours from my experience.
