Cool for small science fair projects.
Mario•May 8, 2017
This is a pretty nice kit. It is very small but it works to explain photo-voltaic cells and the solar energy concepts. It has to be assembled but it is very easy using the instructions that comes with it. Tried it under sun conditions and the car worked perfectly. I recommend it for small science fair projects.
Five Stars

holding up nicely
Dissapointed in Quality and Performance. But you can still learn from it.

This product was not very functional. I am an electrical engineer by education and can tell you I was very disappointed by this item. We bought it for my child's science fair, and upon initial testing the power input required for the motor was much higher than the solar cell was able to generate in direct-full high light. I tested the output of the solar cell with a volt meter and tried varying battery inputs to the motor. There is no way the solar cell would power the motor alone, much less with the additional weight and friction with the ground of the car.
The ones that was shipped to me was absolutely unusable.
The only reason it was not rated a 1 star was because the assembly and the teaching point of gear ratios with my daughter was still somewhat cool. Use this as an educational tool, but not as a working experiment.

We really liked the piece that holds the motor in place

We mainly ordered this item because we needed the wheel/chassis parts. We had our own solar panel and motor. We really liked the piece that holds the motor in place. Great project for kids.
Disappointed

Overall Review: Disappointed.
Pros: Father-Son bonding time
Cons: What a letdown.
- Each part works on its own. But not when it is assembled with weight on the wheels.
- The battery terminals are very flimsy.
- Yes, I left enough play to that the wheels could turn freely. (Any Lego builder knows this.)
Oh well.
