The Right Pre-Amp for the Right Price
A Customer✓ Verified PurchaseAugust 14, 2017
I was looking into buying a pre-amp for my powered monitors that could go to both my turntable and an aux source. I was unimpressed with the volume on lower priced offerings, as the volume would be substantially lower when listening to vinyl, specifically the $57 TEC pre-amp and the Nobsound Little Bear. In order to get them to listening volume I'd have to crank them up all the way, and when I switched to aux, the audio would be blaring. Went to a ton of specialty audio shops, tested out many different pre-amps that had decent amplification. Either they were too expensive ($200-300) or they were a big, heaping amp and I wanted an elegant, small solution.

When I found this amp I was skeptical. The Technolink website looks like it was put together in the 90s. Sketchy.

How wrong I was.

This thing is LOUD. Like, REALLY LOUD. The pre-amp actually makes my old 70's turntable louder than the aux source. I leave the knob at half volume to fill up my entire living room with loud, powerful sound. There's also an incredible clarity coming through my JBL LSR 308's, the amp doesn't seem to be interfering with audio quality in the slightest. The build quality is also impressive. Feels like a hearty piece of hardware.

As a sound engineer and a picky audiophile, I couldn't recommend it more. This is a steal. If only it was on Prime!
Monster in Small Box!!

The small packaging belies the true amplification power of this unit. I have yet to go much beyond the normal range on the amp dial to produce a noticeable power output in quality sound. Actually been looking for a VU or some other audio power meter to keep a visual on how much it's pushing!
Fantastic little "monster in a box" amp that doesn't hog rack space!
One of My Best Purchases This Year

So I bit the bullet and decided to spend a little bit of money on a decent phono preamp. I tried the cheap pre-amps and they were ok. I even listened with the built-in preamp to my Fluance RT81 turntable, which was pretty good. But oh my goodness, the TC-770LC brings out so much more in frequency response and clarity. I'm using an Audio Technica ATN95E stylus, which is stock with the RT81. I added a bit more gain using the preamp, and found a sweet spot. So much more signal is being driven to my main Kenwood amp and I feel like I'm getting the most out of my Athena speakers. I love the options to plug in an mp3 player, microphones, pretty much anything you want. Super convenient and more accessible than the back of my receiver. For under $100 I can't imagine a better preamp. Definitely save yourself some time and get this one first! The build quality is absolutely solid. You won't be disappointed.

I gotta go, my wife is yelling at me to turn down the music!
Fantastic sound quality and value for money!!

My new combination of a U-Turn turntable with a Grado Black 1 cartridge connected to the phono stage on an Onkyo TX NR636 generated pretty anemic sound output, with not enough power to get my Paradigm Monitor 7 speakers really singing even with the receiver's volume turned up to the max. I opted to go the separate preamp route and, based on great reviews, first tried a Cambridge Azur 651P. Unfortunately, running the preamp into the PC inputs in the receiver with good-quality RCA cables gave no better volume and, after 5 minutes' playing time, the left channel crackled a couple of times and then failed completely! Back to the drawing board.

After a few hours of research, I came across positive reviews of the TC-770LC. I was leery of the low price and the additional features that I didn't really need (second RCA source input; mic and aux inputs), but took a chance anyway. Fantastic decision! The additional high gain output adds an amazing amount of high-quality sound (getting really loud at 45/80 on the receiver) with no background noise even with the gain turned up full. Great quality, great value.
Great Amp

This amp will improve your sound. I'm using it with my Audio Technica lp 120. There is not a better quality amp for the price.
