Great starter kit. Does the job. Better instructions would be helpful.
DandelionAugust 19, 2017
GREAT STARTER PACKAGE:
This is my second purchase of LimoStudio products. My first was the umbrella lighting kit. And my second was this softbox kit. I am grateful that LimoStudio is an affordable option. The quality is not comparable to top-professional lighting. For example, one of the stands fell over and the metal bent, so now I can no longer slide & adjust the height. The materials of a professional-grade photography equipment would not bend easily if it simply fell over. But because photography isn't my profession, I wasn't looking for the best of the best. I take photos of products and record tutorials for my blog and shop. And I find that these are ideal for those who are just looking for something that works and is budget-friendly.

CLEAR STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS WOULD BE HELPFUL:
There were no clear step-by-step instructions, and so I found it frustrating to piece everything together. I looked up YouTube videos and found some videos with tips regarding the easiest way to setup the softbox and its frame, even though they were not the same brand as LimiStudio. The most difficult one to figure out was the boom kit. I found out later (from my husband who works with tools every day) that some of the pieces were actually just protective coverings and not a part of the actual finished product itself. And when setting up the boom kit, my husband explained that the handles had to be taken off so you can reattach them the "right way" for usage since they were initially attached in a manner that is ideal for packaging. There is nothing on the instructions that will explain any of that. You get pictures, so basically you have to figure out how to get from A to Z without any direction of how to get to B, C, D and so on.
Very BAD.....
Dr. SocratesJanuary 24, 2017
NO GOOD... All the Lighting Unit sockets failed to work....1st Lighting Unit: 1 socket failed.....2nd Lighting Unit: 3 sockets failed....3rd Lighting Unit: 2 Socket kept going out and thening coming on....If only 1 unit went bad then I would consider getting a replacement part from the distributor....but with so many failures....not taking a chance....RETURNED ALL OF IT....very disappointed... Furthermore, the lighting units shown are very square, it's NOT....it's very rectangle in shape and the stands are poorly made....Scoket unit do not grab the pole very well...It's not even a perfect fit......Only thing I liked about this contraption are the BULBS...such a waste of my time and effort....Plan on making my own lighting...
Would buy again.

LimoStudio's continuous lighting kit was well worth what I paid for it. I did not expect high end/heavy weight light stands for $119.00~ or that the soft boxes would be heavy duty either, and they are not. The lighting however, works wonderfully. I went to photography school & used expensive studio flashes, and I have to honestly say I like these much better. They do not run hot, and what you see is what you get as far as lighting your subject. And I do like that. The boom works well as a hair light & I would recommend this product if you are on a budget~ as I am. Most of the work I have been doing is all volunteer~ so to keep the budget low is a big deal to me, without low cost lighting kits like this I wouldn't be able to do the work I do.

The boxes do not collapse well, so I haul them completely set up. Luckily I have a large E250 van with a large space in the back that allows for this. Sometimes you get what you pay for, sometimes you get a bit better- as far as the lighting quality goes~ I think I got a bit better. The stands are NOT heavy duty, and are something I will look to upgrade in the future. Also highly suggest buying sandbags to weight them down- I purchased mine on Amazon. Instead of sand though, I use canned goods, because who wants sand near their photo gear!? The bag was a nice surprise and am using it to carry my other gear too as am leaving the lights up.

Off topic, though did you know that you can have Amazon donate to your favorite charity? Kind of obvious, though I designated our local humane society. Maybe you should check it out and have them donate to your favorite charity. Don't have one? You could pick the Humane Society of Jefferson County (Wisconsin)- that is where I donate my photo sessions.
appeared to be a little better than I expected based on the reviews I read ...

I received my LimoStudio Photo Video Studio 2400 Watt kit this Wednesday, and set things up late last night. The build quality of the stands, housing, knobs, covers, etc... appeared to be a little better than I expected based on the reviews I read so far. However, when I set everything up and turned on the lights, I found 1 bulb that wouldnt light up, and two sockets in different light housings which would not power on. I contacted the customer support via the supplied email address on the business card which was included in the box. Within 5 minutes they contacted me back with this link to a video which explains how to adjust the contact points of the socket.

Well, that worked perfectly for me, and all of my sockets are now working!
They are processing 1 replacement bulb, which definitely does not work. I am excited to try this out on my next video shoot.
For the price, this is a terrific kit, with excellent product support. You really cant find anything else in this price range at the 2400 watt level, and 3 housings, including a boom stand. This is a sweet deal.

Oh, and something I figured out on the setup.... When you assemble the light boxes by connecting the fabric to the socket housing using the 4 metal rods, I found it much easier to insert the rods into the appropriate slots on the socket housing first, then open the fabric reflector and drop the cord through. Then, set the socket housing down into the reflector, and attach one of the rods into the sleeves on the reflector. Then attach the opposite side to the first one you attached. The last two are way easy, and I can set up a light box in less than 2 minutes with this method. If everything is laid out, I can set this entire kit up in less than 10 minutes and be ready to shoot.
Great lights, just one complaint...

I ordered these in January. Nine months later and they are still holding their own in my studio. I waited to write this review because plenty of reviews commented on the flimsy nature/stability issues of the lights.

These lights are great. I've moved them around my studio (aka my living room) a lot over the past few months without a hitch. The boom arm can be a little tipsy if you extend it all the way out, but if you follow the directions and weight the boom arm, and align it with the foot of the stand, it holds its own just fine.

The only real complaint I have about these lights are the lengths of the cords. When fully extended, you either need to use plenty of extension cords or have the lights very near an electrical outlet because there's no slack left to move them around at all.

The dual light switches on each head are handy. I can light two bulbs instead of all four to adjust the amount of light in the shot. The bulbs seem to be long lasting - I shoot for 5-10 hours each week, and haven't had to replace a bulb yet.

It also packs pretty well - if you save the internal packaging for the bulbs. When I unpacked my kit, I just saved everything so I could re-pack it for travel. Makes it easy to keep your bulbs safe. And EVERYTHING has to come apart in order to re-pack the bag. It's not a 10 minute job, but it's worth it to secure the contents for travel. It's a sturdy, soft-sided bag, and having the boxes inside helps give it a bit more structure.
