I like the fact that you can "set it and forget it" pretty much, and not worry about loosing any plants! There is a learning curve though as to exactly how much water it gets and takes a little while to get it set correctly, based on the size ( circumference and depth ) of the pot.

BOOM!! suddenly sliced bread takes second place a photo finish for this race.....never seen anything quite like this folks... all kidding aside this system don't require batteries, timers, solar power, pumps or much attention really at all....as if gardening isn't relaxing enough?!?! Yep!! set up takes minutes, really simple the ceramic gets dry it begins to water until it's not. No till gardeners this is huge, no more spraying the mulch layer keeping the biology moist!!! Keep the reservoir full with either a float valve or a hose fitting sold separately. Happy plants means happy harvests and there are videos and plenty of folks who can help if you run into issues. Make sure you are set up completely Cheers! before filling reservoir make sure its set up completly use elbow at last carrot or you'll send water all over the place lol. Only beef is they don't include a inline shut off valve with the 5 carrot system..but it's not essential to operate.

I like everything about this except perhaps the bucket size. For this many plant spikes, you can go through 2-3 gallons of water per day during a hot summer so you need to check daily. You don't want the water to run out as you will need to re-do the setup. I recently purchased a 20 gallon Rubbermaid Brute (uv stabilized and food grade plastic in white so water doesn't heat up) bucket to allow me to go on vacation. If they offered an optional upgrade to a larger container size, that would be awesome.

I took one star off because the instructions how to lay out your system are not clear from the site. You would probably be better calling a rep. The starter kit is not really a starter kit because you need additional parts. Suggest you draw a schematic of the areas you are looking to water and outline everything you need from the facet to the last flower pot. If you have a patience you will have a great system.

I do not frequently review products. I am choosing to review this product because of the exceptional performance and design of the product. I purchased these blumat carrots because I was going on vacation and had a high value crop that I needed to make sure got just the right amount of water while I was gone.
Part of the reason that I purchased these is that they have few failure points. They are essentially a moisture activated vacuum valve that opens or pinches a small tube to water your plants. No electricity, simple in design and nearly failure proof. I left for my trip after installing and tuning this system and when I came back my crop had grown considerably.
In fact, because of the consistent and small dosage of watering that my plants received I believe that they actually grew at a faster rate than if I had continued to hand water them. Basically these carrots replace water in the soil at the same rate that your plants use it. Never more or less water then they need.
I am very impressed with these and will definitely purchase more as my garden expands.
The only caution that I would give is that it can take a few days to get these set up and tuned to your plants needs. They are not plug and play. Once they are tuned though, they are worth every penny.
