Great to play with, but not to rely on.

It works well enough and stamps your metadata with DMS formatted (degrees, minutes, seconds) GPS information. It's built like something you'd find in a super market capsule machines though and I have huge reservations about it lasting in the longer term. This is not the GPS attachment you want if you're out in a rough setting where the connecting wires may get snagged and ripped from the camera unexpectedly.
Newest Micnova GPS-N PLUS DSLR GPS: Very Nice Quality, Great Price..Works as Advertised!

Newest Micnova GPS-N: Nice quality, great price, works as advertised and is a snug fit on my D500 hot shoe. I was not interested in calibrating the GPS or determining the yardage error rate--as long as I knew the general location, I was satisfied and this fills my needs. Regarding comments about GPS lag times or lag times locating a satellite...this unit located the satellite and my location in less than 45 seconds. My golf GPS takes 5-8 minutes to locate a satellite and course location. I agree with the comments about the cable length--another few inches would be fine. I ordered a generic cable adapter, but it wouldn't fit. Bottom line: For the price, quality, and function, the Newest Micnova GPS-N is a great deal!
By the way, the D500 is not mentioned as compatible, but it works just fine!

Great product but with one significant design flaw

This thing is great. Beats the heck out of the $350+ version that Nikon apparently makes but which is never available.
One problem though. When using the clip that supposedly attaches to the camera strap--so that the hotshoe can be freed up for something else--there are two problems.
One, the clip is not big enough for most camera straps. It's about an inch maybe. My strap is 2 inches where it needs to be attached so duct tape here we come. Two, the hotshoe attachment on the device doesn't have any way of staying secured to the clip. So it just slides out and dangles from the cable that attaches it to the camera. Again more duct tape.
So actually, I give the device 5 stars, but the stupid plastic thing (made 25 cents worth of plastic) zero stars. That's a really stupid way to sabotage an otherwise great product.

... way out of my price range but this seemed like a good alternative

since my D7200 does not have built in GPS I looked for an alternative to my mobile phone - the Nikon's own gps unit is way out of my price range but this seemed like a good alternative. It comes with all the cables and even a little tie to attach it to the camera strap. Plug in and even though it took about 5 minutes to log onto satellites then it was running very smoothly but does drain the battery a bit so I tend to take just one photo in one location with it turned on and then synchronize the gps data in bridge or LR after. Only 4 stars as it is still quite expensive..
It delivers on it's claim.

Works like a champ. The only drawback is that it sucks battery power. Takes about 10 to 30 seconds usually to get a location lock on power up. The plug (for a Nikon 5200) could be improved to better seal to the camera and reduce that wire hanging around to get caught on things.
