The first rule of nutrition/snack/energy bars when it comes to adding chocolate; put the chocolate INSIDE the bar.
Clif, RX Bar, Larabar, Powerbar (the energy bar type, not the protein type), Raw Revolution all put chocolate inside their products, not on the outside where it will melt and make a mess.

The Zing Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar chocolate coating was melted and messy upon delivery (from Amazon), and of course since it was a 90 degree August day. So I put the bars in the refrigerator, but that made the bars impossible to bite into!

The melted coating sticks to the wrapper so when the bar is opened, it's either a gooey mess, or if the bar has cooled since it its initial exposure to heat bits of chocolate fall off onto your hands, onto your clothes, onto the floor... you get the idea. Either way it's a bloody mess.

So this Zing bar has a very narrow temperature range of usability - I'd say 50ËšF to 70ËšF is it. You can't put one of these Zing bars in your pocket or cycling jersey without creating a real mess when it's opened, and you can't keep them cold without breaking your teeth on them.

Otherwise, the Zing Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter bar tastes decent. It has a chewy consistency, not as sticky as a Tootsie Roll but about as stiff. I recommend small bites. It's not too sweet and the peanut flavor is modest. The chocolate could be better - it isn't all that rich. It didn't "wow" me.

One of these bars keeps me satiated for a couple of hours and for me has a glycemic index low enough that my insulin doesn't spike. But keep in mind these bars do have sugar.

Zing makes a big deal about the fact their products are created By professional nutritionists... yeah well those professional nutritionists might want to learn a thing or two about the melting point of chocolate.

Bar none, my favorite protein bar. Contains the requisite fiber and protein, and only 10 grams of sugar. Best of all, the bars contain no "sugar alcohol" or artificial sweeteners, which seem to be all the rage these days. This not only makes them taste a thousand times better but a lot healthier too. The bars arrived melt in your mouth fresh. In fact that's one of the things I truly love about these bars -- their texture. Chewy, moist & delicious. The key is to find the on sale because they're not the cheapest.

Im really bummed. The Zing dark chocolate coconut bar has been one of the only high protein items my picky kiddo would eat. Now, this new "vitality bar" version comes out instead. Its harder, darker...higher in fiber and lower in sugar, but I wasted all that money and Im stuck with three boxes of bars that my kiddo will never eat :-/ I just bought 3 packages, as thats how many my kiddo would eat per month. Guess I should have been more careful, but I find myself wishing that Zing had warned us!

Looking for a good protein bar, lower carbs, and no digestion challenging sweeteners. I tried a few different bars, but these bars easily won my little competition. Frankly, the taste and mouth feel are what clinched the deal. Some bars want you to take little bites and work and work to get then chewed down to swallow. These are most like dense brownies, but brownies none-the-less. Still on my first box, I find them great for a grab when heading out for errands of for a nice snack during the day.

I have purchased these bars for years and they were fantastic. This new box I received, they had changed the product significantly along with the packaging. The "bar" part that is underneath the chocolate coating is half as thick as it used to be and the chocolate coating is so thick and gross now. The flavor is different as well now. The coating must be much cheaper and maybe that is why they increased it by 3 times in thickness. I wish I had an old bar to compare ingredients as this is not the same bar I purchased for YEARS. Will no longer be purchasing this product.
