My kids and I love Mochi anything. Years ago my brother brought back the most amazing mochi sampler from Japan and I haven't been able to find a product that similar to it... until now! We all love the flavor combinations. They arrived quickly. Excellent condition and super soft and fresh tasting. I can appreciate a lot of the mochi that is sold in the US, but it's no comparison to true Japanese quality! Delicious! Will order again (and again!).

Before you proceed anywhere on this page...

STOP.

Do you know what mochi is? (Hint: it's rice)

Do you know what daifuku is? (Hint: it's sweetened mochi - basically)

What if I told you rice could be made into something like a yummy gummy?

Would yummy gummy-like treats filled with a thick, sweet, jelly-like paste interest you?

What if that thick, sweet, jelly-like paste was made from beans?

Ahhhh, you're running away? :( Oh well. Let's get on with it.

I have yet only tried the mango/peach/pineapple package (as of this writing they're all gone) and one of the bean paste, and they are DELICIOUS. Granted, they came in a little smashed and very soft, but... I think I like them that way!

They used real fruit juice concentrate for these, so rest assured you're not going to complain that you can hardly taste the difference between each one. The pineapple really SMELLS and tastes like pineapple, the peach really DO make me think of peaches, and the mango... well, to be honest, it's been so long since I had a mango, but it's what I think a mango would smell like.

The bean paste ones, as with most Japanese treats, doesn't really taste like "beans." It just tastes sweet, and thick, and... yeah, it's difficult describing it. Nothing like barbecued beans. I thought I was being very daring by eating one, that it was something to brag about to my silly siblings, but it was kind of a let down. Oh well.

I can't comment on the strawberry/blueberry ones yet, but I can get an idea from the smell that they won't disappoint. :)

Anyway, I loved these. They are very sweet though, and I seriously doubt it's what a native Japanese would call "legit" daifuku, but until the day I can sample the real thing, this is probably the closest I'll get.
Great flavors

I ordered these just like two weeks ago and I tried them right away (room temperature, straight out of the package it arrived in) and while the flavor was okay I really couldn't stand the potato starch and texture. I shoved them in the fridge where they went ignored for the next week because I just wasn't interested.

A nice asian lady that my sister buys books from stopped by and we ended up on the subject of foods from around the world. My sister mentioned we have mochi in the fridge and I could see how excited she was to hear that, so I offered her some of my long-ignored treats in the fridge. Of course out of politeness I took one myself.... and this is what I have to say....

DO NOT RUIN YOUR FIRST EXPERIENCE BY EATING THEM ROOM TEMPERATURE! These were waaaaaay better fridge cold. Maybe everyone is different on this and some people might like it better the first time to eat them warmer, but for me, it made them go from "it's not gross" to "I need to keep buying this stuff." I ate a bunch after this, and not a single one was bad. I think my favorite so far has probably been the green tea.

Now with that being said... my sister does not like them. My little brother doesn't like them. But most of my nieces and nephews do!
