Yeah, this has a perfect alternate use. Why buy expensive pet store "Forbid", when you can sprinkle this on dog food & it does the same thing?!?!
Good, seemingly pure MSG

MSG has an unfortunately bad reputation supported mostly by false science and folklore. It is a great additive (not technically a spice) that gives food more umami, which is my favorite taste. It's especially good on lean cuts of meat that lack flavor, or in any Asian dish. I often use it in place of soy sauce because it has far less sodium.
Not just for seasoning food

I purchased on the recommendation from our vet for this to act as a deterrent to one of our poop eating puppies. MSG is a main ingredient in the product called Forbid but it is expensive to continue using. Our vet suggested this cheaper alternative. Our vet stated it is safe however I have been doing some research and read where there may be concern to give to dogs over brain damage issues. Though I read may need alot more than I give my puppy and I don't plan on giving her this long term. Now, has this worked? I believe so. I gave 1 tsp per day per feeding. So far I have not caught my puppy in the act nor smelled poo on her breath. I also have noticed any weird side effects either. Soon, she'll be off of this and IF she goes back to eating stool again I will resume this treatment. I recommend for the intention I am using it for.
