Excellent and highly tunable

1 1/2" a 2" valves are used as return flow valves for our in- ground swimming pool. This spring I found a broken valve stem. It was so easy to change out and repair for the simple cost of buying a new valve. I used the moving gate part in the new valve and replaced the old one in the old body of the valve.
A very simple fix with out needing to remove the old body of the valve that in all that piping!

This gate valve is the Ferrari of gate valves for aquariums. I have this running on my 90 gallon used with a Herbie drain set-up. For those running a Herbie or a Bean Animal, this is the gate valve to get. Do not, I repeat, do not try to achieve a Herbie or Bean Animal setup using a standard ball valve. The slightest movement of the ball valve changes the flow too much, and you'll give yourself headaches trying to tune the flow to a slow trickle. I changed from a ball valve to this valve and now tuning the system takes 30 seconds, vs. 10 minutes, or never, before. I was unable to get my flow down the emergency line to a slow trickle with the ball valve, in the way I was able to achieve the silent trickle with this valve. This valve can also be dissembled for cleaning, which will inevitably be required in an aquarium setting. Again, this is the item to buy if you're looking to make fine adjustments in an aquarium sump set-up. Don't try to save money by buying a cheaper ball valve, and buy what works right.
