With a little fixing, it's good enough for me.

It is large and accurate enough for me to transfer my sketches to the support I use. The two drawbacks are the fact that I had to sand the point because it wasn't finished at the factory (easy to do, but a drawback nonetheless). The other one is the way it needs to be re-tightened every other measurement. It performs for me well enough at the price. So I love mine. It's just not perfect.
Would not recommend.

I didn't expect much to begin with but I was still disappointed with the quality of this scale divider. First of all, I assumed it was made of a molded plastic material (which would make it much more precise and less bulky) but instead it's made out of machined wood. The tooling used to drill the adjustment notches didn't make clean cuts and so little bits keep flaking off. The points are very large and blunt. It's okay for generalizing but you can throw accuracy out the window. Another major issue I have is the black paint used on it creates dark marks on my paper almost as easy as a pencil.
Inaccurate for short measurements, or measurements scaling downward.

Maybe I got a lemon but the Derwent Scale divider I bought (delivered March 4, 2017) is unacceptably inaccurate, particularly when scaling a short measurement downward. It is marginally inaccurate when scaling upward. This is because the divider's points (on both ends) are blunted and skewed enough to wreck its accuracy... very annoying. In every photo showing the divider in use, the ends are shown very sharp... a degree of sharpness found on a freshly sharpened pencil. I have two options: 1. Close the divider and tape the sides together, which places the points in closest alignment. Then bench grind new points. This can be a real pain in the tail. 2. Give up, and buy an Acccurasee divider for around the same price,(also plastic, but shown in all photos with sharp points), and hope Accurassee is just a bit more honest.

All said, don't buy the Derwent unless it will be used only for large drawings, where up to 1/4" of point error may not matter so much.
Almost there!

This divider could have used many more detentes for adjustments. I will modify it with my Dremel tool. So what's new? I'm often redesigning my art and craft equipment to suit my needs.
Much improved by a small hack

Keep in mind that the real precision-instrument version of this item costs more than $100 (look up proportional divider and find a metal one). This version costs less than $15, and you can tell the difference. This made of two black-painted pieces of wood, each a little more than a foot long, and each carved to a pretty blunt point at each end. Those are held together by a pretty solid and smoothly working brass screw-tightener setup, which fits into a series of notches which sets the proportion you're transferring to. If you have a wood shop, you can probably make a better one yourself, but I don't and can't so I'm a verified purchaser here instead.

This item works quite well enough -- with a small hack. Other reviewers have noted that the arms are easily jostled out of position with one another, and mine was like that too. So I put a little rubber gasket on the connecting screw, in between the two arms, and now when I tighten the connector, the arms stay put until I release them. I made my gasket out of a segment of extra-wide rubber band which came from around a bunch of broccoli -- exercise your imagination or just visit the hardware store.
