This digital clock kit had strait forward instructions written in easy to understand English (unlike many electronic kits from China). The kit came with quality components and assembly was a snap with a little soldering experience. The clock features a 12 hour clock and setting the time is simply a matter of holding down the button on the back until the correct time is displayed. If you like diy electronic kits in general, then Velleman is the way to go.
A good learning clock kit

This is a learning kit, not a real clock, and it's not an alarm clock at all. So as a clock it's not great but it does feature a decent timebase (the AC line frequency when an AC type adapter is used), battery backup, and a nice looking case.
But as a learning kit it's really pretty good. It would be a great kit if Velleman would publish the software with it, but they don't. It's a clever design where they use several of the microprocessor pins for multiple purposes. The schematic diagram is available here: [...]
You need a 9VAC adapter to get the most out of this clock kit, like this one: AC-AC ADAPTER 9VOLTS AC @ 1000mA 2.1mm POWER PLUG

Fun to build

This was a project for my 14 yr old son to build on a cold winter day. The instructions were step by step so the assembly was a breeze. They did short change us one L.E.D that was easily found at Digi Key. As far as the clock goes the procedure on adjusting the time is not clear so changing it is a pain in the neck. All in all it was fun for my son to do. If you have someone who is just getting into electronics it is a good buy.
