Very happy with this lamp! Recommended.

We bought this for camping, but when our power went out 12/23 during an ice storm we pulled this out of the closet and were very pleased with the lamp. It was very bright for such a small package. We also really liked the dimmer option, which we'll use a lot. It has a fold out hook on the bottom of the lamp to hang it - we tested this to hang it in our kitchen and it is a very clever and useful feature that I know we'll appreciate while camping as well.
It takes 3 D batteries but doesn't come with them - thankfully we did have the batteries on hand. The power was only out for 1 hour so we didn't test the longevity, but I read in online professional reviews before buying that this lantern lasts for the 30 days promised.

Great emergency lantern with superb battery life.

This lantern is a great choice for emergencies, camping and home use. We have four - reserve nightlight for the kids' room in case of power-outages, one in the garage 'ready to go', one in the trunk of the car for emergencies and one in the camping box. Battery life is excellent. Across the four lanterns, with sporadic use, we have not had to change the batteries so far on a year of use.
The glow-in-the-dark detailing is nice, but it only glows if it was next to a light recently. So of limited use if the lantern is kept in a dark place.
I give it 4, rather than 5, stars because the minimal light setting (the 30-day) setting is too bright to be really comfortable as a nightlight, however, if you really do need 30 days of light in an emergency, the level of light is perfectly adequate to undertake most tasks. On its brightest setting it is very bright indeed.
It's fairly heavy to carry, but the curved handle means it packs down reasonably small.
We have dropped a couple of them onto concrete without them breaking, so this is a robust product. We're very pleased with ours, and just ordered another.

unit lasted 12 days when under a battery test , now light flickers when on high. I have 2 others that work well, 2 out of 3 aint bad but they are expensive.purchased 3 over time, 2 out of 3 work well, one flickers on high. Illumination lasts for 2 hrs per instructions, so its not great for next to bed late night help. illumination isnt bright at all and on off button is still very hard to locate in dark. Too bad, I like the weight and size of these light, i may try a different brand next time.
On Button Too Easy To Trigger
Jon Weston✓ Verified Purchase•February 8, 2016
The button needs to be recessed or protected with a flange or something, as it is very easy to switch on accidentally. It's got a hair trigger right on the outside of the structure too; doesn't take hardly any pressure from a nearby sleeping bag or backpack to turn it on and have it running for hours, unplanned. It's happened every time I pack it with my other gear.
Great Product Made better.

Love the lantern. My wife and I camp in tents and this is the best lantern for the money. I recommend buying a roll of glow-in-the-dark tape (under $5.00 > http://www.amazon.com/Rolls-Glowing-Tape-Craft-Repairs/dp/B00TOUNP5E/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1442303664&sr=8-2&keywords=glow+in+the+dark+tape), and wrapping lantern and flashlights. Cut out the area where the ON/OFF button is located so you can spot easily it in the dark. Tape glows more than Glow in the dark plastic.
