This unit has top-notch manufacturing quality. Everything seems to have been carefully designed to fit as well. There was no plastic flashing or ill-fitting parts on anything. It accepted my Canon DSLR camera perfectly. The clamps are pressure type and hold very well. My only minor complaints are that the shoulder pad is very stiff and isn't comfortable and may require modification if you plan on using it for hours, even if just using a towel underneath it. Secondly, although not terribly complex, there were no written instructions for assembly--only diagrams. The diagrams did help, but weren't immediately clear without trial and error. Otherwise excellent!

This rig is somewhere between OK and sort of like it. The shoulder mount is mostly useless. It doesn't clamp down well enough to stay in place. The counterweight also screws onto the arm-- and it keeps unscrewing. I can see why you might pay more for a rig... tightening the clamps is a bit of a puzzle at times as they bang into other nearby items, so, for example, to move the lens hood around I have to loosen several other clamps to get access. Switching from a wide to tele lens is a pain in the a**. That said I do carry the base of the rig with me in my camera bag as it's a cheap way to stabilize non-stabilized bodies and lenses.
Plastic screws/fasteners

If you're going to use this rig frequently, you'll want to replace the plastic fasteners with Socket Head Cap Screws w/ matching metal washers. They will crack/loosen particularly at the hand grips and shoulder rail. Take one of the plastic headed screws to your local hardware store and find a Socket Head Cap Screw that is the same size (and don't forget the washers). This made my life so much easier after I did that. I believe the size is 3/16 X 3/4 inch Socket Head Cap Screws but you should try to visually match it in person to be safe. I recommend buying enough Socket Head Cap Screws to replace all of the plastic headed ones.

It did help me stabilize the camera. It was a little heavy to walk around with but with my camera strap around my neck and the shoulder mount it was pretty stable. I never really could get the follow focus to work it never stayed tight enough to focus it back and forth. I don't like the screw in plugs on the end they don't stay in and I've already lost 2 of them. Since they are not just for show but to keep the grips and plates from sliding of the ends I wasn't happy when I noticed they had fallen off. It a very small detail. But it might be a good idea to add extras of those in the kit.

I am using this with a Lumix FZ-1000 which has its lens slightly offset to the left (not uncommon among cameras). This means that the lens shade cannot be installed without some thought. To be brief, if your camera lens is offset and not in the centerline of your camera, you will have to move the unit's camera mount plate to the right. Not difficult but something to consider.
The manufacturer would do better by placing additional screw holes in the mount plate or allowing it to be rotated 90° so the camera can be adjusted laterally.
Otherwise, perfect for my needs.
