Won't work to read Concept 2 PM3 logcard under OS 10.12.x
Theodore GrovesMay 20, 2017
Apparently this Card Reader will not work with a Concept 2 rower log card for a PM3 for OS X 10.12 (Sierra) -- even after downloading the specific BETA driver for version Sierra of OS X. The problem (according to the Concept 2 web site) is that this seems to be a Version 3 Omnikey 3121 and not a Version 1 or 2. But, the Version number of the 3121 is not provided in any of the descriptions of this product on Amazon and also it does not appear on the device itself.

This device installs easily and reads my smart cards. Pretty much exactly what I wanted :-)
Works well for Concept 2 card and El Capitan.

Worked very easily on OS X El Capitan to read my Concept 2 chip card. Much less problematic than the old reader I had. The driver was easy to find and install.
Works great for C2 rowing logcard on Mac OS X El Capitain (10.11) - AFTER downloading the driver

I purchased this card reader because the Athena cardreader no longer works on Mac OS X El Capitain (10.11). It was instantly recognized by the C2 Utility program, but it did not recognize that a card had been inserted. I installed the latest driver (apparently, a beta version) from hidglobal.com and then restarted my computer, and the card reader worked properly. Glad to be able to log my rows on my Mac again!
Works most of the time...

I found that sometimes I had to re-insert the smart card for the PC to read that a card was inserted into the reader. The reader itself seems well-made but the seller just shipped it in an envelope without any anti-static bubble wrap. The vertical stand clips onto the unit and I can't seem to separate them without damaging a tab. I can't believe these are still expensive, but it is better than waiting and hoping your IT department has a budget to buy replacements.
