Escaper Buddies work in deep sand
SteveJuly 1, 2017
I pulled a camper down the beach and I hit soft sand. My rear wheels sank down to the rear bumper. I was unable to move forward even in 4-lo. I dug down with the Escaper Buddies and placed them at the rear wheels. Having read other reviews, I knew not to spin the tires on them so I pulled forward gently. Once they were under the tires, the rear lifted up out of the sand and I rolled forward. That is, until I hit the end of the Escaper Buddies. The rear wheels promptly sank again. Too much tongue weight. Repeated the a-fore mentioned process to get to more firm sand. They were not damaged and they worked very well.

Seem to be well built, and cheaper than the alternatives. Main downside is these do NOT stack -- why I docked a star.

I was able to mount these to my 5th gen 4runner behind the back seat using the tie-downs that I assume are for car seats. Just zip-tied on, and they stay out of the way until I do something stupid and need to pull them out (I don't wheel at all, but do a lot of solo driving and do NOT want to get stuck in a snow drift / overzealously-tackled mud pit in a national forest). As with any of these products, they will cake on mud, but that's ok since they're mainly with me for snow.

To play with them, I took my (stock tires, hehe) into ~1ft deep snow-mud and promptly got stuck (4wd / diff lock / fancy terrain crawl control of no use due to loss of traction). Got out pretty quick with these after digging out a bit with a shovel.

Pretty good option if you want a recovery option that looks somewhat pretty, but doesn't make you feel bad for buying it.
A must - fantastic

These are a must for anyone going off road. I have been stuck twice, in sand and a crevice on a ridge. These mats got me right out. My grandson had a friend stuck in a muddy slough. Nothing worked, 4 wheel drive, winch. But when they worked the mats under the back wheels, the 4 wheel truck came right out. They couldn't believe it.
Great product!

These are great! I looked into traction pads for a while and picked these to do price being fair and them looking sturdy and durable! Other brands work once but rip all the grip off the pads where these are built strong. I've used mine twice for other people. One was a 2wd tacoma on sand and it took just a few attempt and it was out. I also used them once to get a new rav 4 unstuck in about a foot of snow and it only took a few seconds. So far there is minor wear on a few tips but the tips are still good. Finally the cleaning is easy and the bright orange helps find them in deep snow and mud. I would recommend these for sure and am buying another set for my other truck too!
Ok, but not as good as the originals.

Works ok, considering it's quite a bit cheaper than original MaxTrax. One essential difference, they don't lock to each other as the MaxTrax do. This is not only advantageous for taking less space when stacked; the MaxTrax that way are much stronger when stacked.
