This tomahawk is really great! It's very strong, lighter than I expected and the perfect size for destroying Zombie brains for hours and hours at a time. I highly recommend this and the double sided one that estwing makes as well
Fine for the price

I just bought it and have not used it much but it looks and feels tough. Both blade and point are not sharp but that is not a big issue as I can sharpen them if needed. I will update the review when it has undergone more extensive usage.

One question though: Is the "hole" at the base of the handle for a lanyard? It only goes as far as the rubbery grip and does not go through the metal tang. Is this a manufacturing defect?
It's a meleé weapon

When a product has as many reviews as the Estwing Tomahawk has, I employ the common strategy of reading through the negative ones. If I see the same complaints repeated, I know that the mentioned features are probably genuine problems. With this tomhawk, however, the majority of negative reviewers seemed to misunderstand the purpose of this axe.

In short, although I understand Estwing being reluctant to broadcast the fact too openly, this axe is a weapon. That means it's not going to make a convenient hatchet to carry on a pack or belt; it's not going to be balanced to stick when thrown; it's not even going to be especially efficient when chopping wood. It's designed for "anti-personnel" activities, as can be seen from it's odd length--too long for a hatchet, but not as long as a wood axe--and from the fact that the head has been lightened to make it more nimble, unlike most axes that put the majority of weight into the head to optimize it for chopping into stationary wood, rather than potentially mobile but, well...softer...media. More obviously, besides being labled as a "tomahawk", which can reasonably be translated as "war axe", it has a big, sharp spike on the backside of the head. Some reviewers complained that a flat surface for hammering would have had more utility, and I agree that's true--if this axe was meant to be used as a tool.

But it's not, it's designed to be a weapon, so if you're looking for a tool, or a sporting axe (either to throw or for competitive lumberjacking) choose one of the axes Estwing offers optimized for those activities. If, however, you want an edged weapon that will keep you at a safer distance than a knife, and requires a minimal amount of training to be used effectively, then this tomahawk is an outstanding choice.

I deducted one star from my rating because the thing came as dull as a butter knife. This isn't usually a problem for me with edged weaapons, because I genuinely enjoy sharpening, have been practicing that skill for a few years now, and have gotten good enough at it to make a few bucks on the side sharpening knives and tools for others. But this axe was SO dull that after an hour of my usual routine with course diamond stones, the steep angle of the grind meant I wasn't getting anywhere. I would have needed weeks to have removed enough steel to have gotten a proper edge on the thing by hand. So for the first time since I started sharpening, I had to break out my dremel and use a sanding attachment to grind an edge into this axe head. It went quickly enough after that, but I can't in good conscience give a full five stars to any blade that requires a power tool to get properly sharp right out of the box. Other than tbat, however, I'm quite pleased with the weapon I purchased, and sincerely hope I never have cause to use it. But there is nothing like a break-in to one's home to make one see the utility of being armed, and since the many small children around my house, whose knowledge of firearm safety is dubious at best, mean I can't safely keep a loaded one immediately accessible, this axe is a much better option than an impromtu kitchen knife, or table lamp.

I always buy American if I can, even if it cost more. I own quite a few ESTWING products, you can't do much better, especially not with those Chinese pieces of garbage! I'm glad I bought this quality American product that helps keep American workers on the job. I take this Tomahawk Axe with me hunting. You can't go wrong with their products, period!!!
Can't beat the price!!!

*******Edited to add*******
My review is based on my purchase price of $72.95. I just looked at this item again with the intent to order another combo package and they're out of stock only available from third party sellers for over $100. My review is not based upon that price. For what I paid I'm happy but doubt I would pay $100+ although it may be worth it depending on individual perspective. I'm not saying it's not worth it yet I'm not saying it is either, that's up to you and your pocket book to decide!

******End of edit*******

I was looking for a multitool for an upcoming ride and having used Leatherman, Gerber, SOG, Victornox, etc in the past I started looking at Leatherman's offerings. While I dislike their politics they do make a good quality tool. In my searching I found this pro pack with the rebar and hatchet combo, compared prices of what individual costs would be, noted the negligible difference in price between the pro pack and just the tool, and ordered after reading all the reviews.

Packaging and shipping was well done. No complaints there. The blister pack was the typical pita.

The hatchet/tomahawk is pretty nice. It's as described by other reviewers depending on their definition of sharp. I'll put it this way, the hatchet while not razor sharp is sharp enough to use as a hatchet. Some prefer their hatchets shaving sharp others like them just sharp to prevent damaging the fine edge of the blade. You can't please everyone and I feel this is a nice middle ground that will touch up quickly to even the finickiest persons expectations.
The piercing point is unsharpened at all. It has a nice point to it but it's not sharp edged. This will be good or bad depending on your thinking and individual needs. The good news is that with a Dremel and sanding drums or a file this can be modified to suit anyone's desires. Since you can't please everyone I think that this was a wise decision by Estwing.

As far as used as a weapon to be honest when you study trench warfare and see what they used then look at this tomahawk I think you'll agree "it'll do pig it'll do." I didn't buy this to be used as a weapon however I felt the need to address it as that's been a concern of others. I'm sure it'll make short work of mutant zombie pumpkins in your garden on Halloween if that's your thing lol.

Sheaths... This I think as much as anything is going to be a subjective matter based largely on the users preferences and needs. I'll address it this way....
Tomahawk, the sheath appears to be if good quality and utilitarian with the purpose of protecting the user while securely carrying the tool. If you need more you'll want to make your own or seek a custom maker. But for something that WILL work in ~98% of all circumstances personally I see nothing wrong with it. Again you can't please everyone, and the sheath could have just been a basic POS they included as a feel good for legal reasons. I'm grateful they actually seem to have put some thought and effort into it. Your thoughts may vary. I apologize but I forget what the attachment of the sheath was and if it was MOLLE compatible or not. I'll check when I get home and remember to do so and update this review.
Rebar multitool, the supplied sheath is MOLLE compatible. It appears decently made and should hold up as well as anything short of a bombproof custom makers sheath. I have no complaints and feel it will work admirably.

The multitool seems to be typical Leatherman and has a decent assortment of tips tools and blades. It'll work for my intended use as part of a tool kit for my motorcycle.

Should I have any issues with anything I'll update my review as time goes on. No updates no bad news!

I hope this helps someone out somehow.

If you found my review helpful please click and let Amazon know. If you feel it's just another worthless review that serves to do nothing but take up space then by all means vote and let Amazon know that too! There's to many crap reviews on here that makes it hard to get a feel for what we're really buying and it's my goal to help make it easier on all of us.

Thanks for your time and again I hope I helped someone.
