Modern Castilla Rain Barrel
Michael W. BlevinsJune 2, 2017
I like the shape of this rain barrel. The top planter is a nifty feature and I also appreciate the double spigot. The lower spigot allows you to fully empty the barrel. What would really be nice is a better way to mount the barrel so the wind doesn't take it. That might not be a problem when it is full, but when empty it is very light and there is no easy mounting strategy. I used a strap but bolt holes on the bottom would be better.
Great for the money!

The right solution at the right price. The only thing I'd have prefered is having one of these with an identical design made of ceramic rather than hard plastic. I priced the ceramic versions, which were out of reach for my particular application. I went with the plastic and would do it again as it looks just great beneath the back corner of our roof. It was easy to install - I put it together and in position within 10 min of delivery.
Waste not, want not during summer drought
Derwood and Prairie GirlApril 26, 2016
This is our fourth rain barrel; my brother built two years back from larger, repurposed containers that flank our 16' x 16' shed. Collecting rain from downspouts is common sense these days, although the past two years have been plentiful w/r/t rain, but it wasn't so long ago that I recall water restrictions being called for during summer droughts. Easy, attractive, brilliant use of what can become a necessary source for flower beds and vegetable gardens. Diverter kits (purchased separately) are useful to double-up containment or to allow overflow from the barrel to exit at a safe distance from the house foundation. Again, waste not, want not. No problems with mosquitos. My brother's DIY containers are perfect for our backyard while these are visually appealing in addition to being the difference between crispy coral bells and lavender and a well-watered foundation bed. If I had any open downspouts remaining, I would have a barrel for each. Highly recommend! - Prairie Girl
$79 at Home Depot

I'm pleased with the unit, but It filled up during the first hour of a good rain after I installed it. Went looking for a diverter to let the overflow run through the downspout and found the same exact barrel for $79 at Home Depot (I paid $115 here on Amazon). I'll probably buy another one at HD, so you could say I'm satisfied with the product, but not the price.
Nice barrel!

My wife is very selective about her garden items and this fit her needs very well. The challenge was to find a downspout adapter that was tastefully designed. The Oatey 14209 fit the bill perfectly. I question the use/value of the extra recess in the top. It fills up when it rains. Nice barrel!
