If the splitter begins to slow due to a difficult split there is a very good chanse this cross is fixing to launch into the ...

I've split about three cords of oak using this cross on the smaller pieces. I rate it a three because it is very effective at speeding up my wood splitting but also unsafe. I only use it when I am alone at the splitter and I remain very cautious even on straight grained wood no more than six inches round. Many times, this cross has popped off the top of the wedge under pressure. The side wings are not centered and I have used it with them high and low without much difference. If the splitter begins to slow due to a difficult split there is a very good chanse this cross is fixing to launch into the air. I have seen it fly three feet in the air and land six feet away many, many times. Every time (so far) it goes to the side. I'm using the Boss splitter it is designed for and I make sure I stay on the end and operate the lever. Splitting wood on these small wood splitters puts you very close to the action and there are none that are completely safe. Sometimes the woods pushes through and sometimes it seems to explode. This cross has to be free floating to prevent wood from jamming under it. If you use it, stay alert and cautious.
Ok but relatively unnecessary

Does ok on smaller logs but does stay in place on those bigger than maybe 6". They have to be fairly straight and free of large knots.

Do not buy it will damage your splitter head that is mounted. I am fighting to get my money back.
