Works well, prone to wind noise.
Freddy The Frog •April 14, 2018
Attaches and works equally well on my Sony AX-100 and Sony AX-700 cameras.
Much improved over the built-in microphones. Good vibration isolation and easy install securely attaches.
Wind cover needs much improvement as it falls off easily and only does a marginal job of diffusing wind noise.
Well made, solid feel, tightening ring does the trick.
I definitely recommend this microphone based on stereo sound and clean recording performance.

MUCH better sound isolation from camera zoom and my breathing!!!

So far so good. This is my first external microphone purchase for my consumer needs. Primarily take videos of our family around the house and on vacations. I upgraded to a Sony RX10M3 as my all in one device for stills and video. Noticed my breathing was being easily picked up with the built in mic and I could hear the internal motor on the zoom. Figured I would try another warehouse deal and bought this. Just put it on and after taking some test recordings I didn't notice a huge difference in sound of my family member talking but did notice a huge reduction in breathing and zoom noise. That is the main reason I wanted a mic was to isolate the sound better from me and the camera. Time will tell how much better sound is compared to internal. It was also nice to see it worked perfectly on my Panasonic HC-VX870 4k camcorder with supplied cord into mic input. Keep in mind without using the cable on compatible Sony devices the MIC will run in a auto sort of mode. Nice because no cable needed but if you want more control of audio settings you need to use the cable which gives you more control. It's nice to have both options as I know my wife might use it more if no extra hook up of cable is needed. One final thought, I shopped for a camera with good quality internal mic as I figured I didn't want external devices, this unit is small enough and especially without the cable will be very convenient to use. I will update this review if it turns out I have issue with the sound vs internal.
Best Option for Sony A6000
Arielle•July 24, 2017
It's the BEST option for the Sony A6000, unless you are recording audio separately and then synchronizing it in Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premier. I was so upset when I found out my camera lacked an audio jack (my fault), but after extensive research and consideration of changing my camera, there are so many amazing options for the camera. This mic is one of them! The sound can be tinny and have a lot of white noise, but this goes away with even the click of a box (reduce background noise) in basic programs like iMovie. You can imagine that this is completely unnoticeable in the higher end video editing software. Anyway, I usually use this as well as a basic lavalier mic (Amazon recommended) with my iPhone (use the app that comes with the phone) so that I have multiple audio options and can play with audio. The best part is that Adobe Premier comes with the Adobe Creative Suite, which I originally didn't realize! I do think it's overpriced for the necessity to still edit, but it definitely is better than the internal mic, especially post audio editing. However, it's easy and intuitive to stick on the hotshoe, and I like the rotation part of it. Definitely worth paying this price instead of the $69.99 for the Sony shotgun mic or the more expensive bluetooth mics or bluetooth lavalier kits. You only need those if you have a huge budget.
Great All-around Microphone for a Sony Camera
David C. Diemer•November 22, 2016
I have the Sandy FDR-AX33 4k video camera with the ½" sensor and the on-board 5-channel sound. But I was recording stage productions and I needed the ability to pierce the ambient sound and get a more focused sound from the product, and I needed to be able to pickup a wide-range of audio to record entire choruses singing down to a 4-person quartet or a solo singer. This microphone has proven to be up to the task. I intentionally selected Sony because of the connector at the base of the microphone would match the capabilities of my camera.
Spoiled by the Camera. While it's a great all-around microphone with a solid ability to pickup lows to highs, it is hampered by the camera's inability to control the gain or disable the on-board auto-gain. That single factor has proven troublesome to get good audio from live performances when the singing is quiet or someone is speaking from a distance. The other thing the camera does is record nearly all audio at peak levels. When importing the video/sound into Final Cut Pro, I have to lower the volume level 12db so the audio won't distort on playback! This has very little to do with the microphone, but it is a failure of the video camera itself to not allow any adjustments to audio.

Excellent microphone for Sony Cameras!!!! Much better than built-in Mic
Christian•October 24, 2016
I bought this to use with Sony A6000 because the built in mic quality on that camera sucks! This is an excellent replacement. I will post a video of me comparing this mic with the built-in mic on the Sony A6000.
PROS:
Directional microphone so it drastically helps reduce background noise such as wind, objects, or television.
Clarity is better when shooting a subject directly
Comes with Wind Screen for better quality outdoors
Can set mics to 0 degrees or 120 degrees depending on the subject you are shooting
CONS:
Videos seem to have a very feint white noise which I believe is coming from the microphone
A little pricey but still worth it
